Max’s Enemy

“No.” A book is pushed away.

“Nope.” Another book is thrown onto a pile.

“Nothing.” You groan after you looked through another book which had slid off onto the floor of your room. “None of these books have anything to do with those rocks.”

The books you had were all things you had gotten from Xavier. It was getting really frustrating and unfortunately your gloves were off. This caused your desk to singe.

You yell a bit then gently pat it down. “And this stupid….whatever it is.” You rub your face after taking off your glasses. This always happens at random times.

Gently you lift up your sleeve and look at the mark on your forearm. You've seen this before, even just recently.

“Xavier.” You smile, “I should've just asked Xavier.” You laugh at yourself, “Xavier is smart in these types of things.”

You pull your sleeve back down and halfway across the room, you turn around to grab your glasses.

In town, you stroll along the roads heading to Xavier's when you happen to glance down an alley that lead to another street.

It was Max and a black horse. They stood by a stand with stacked apple and Max points to the sign that says you have to pay for an apple.

You tilt your head and watch the black horse make Max turn away before pulling an apple. All the apples now fell and littered the streets.

You narrow your eyes and walk to the scene. Everyone was getting mad at Max for knocking it down. Clearly they didn't see what happened.

“Max?”

He looks at you then neighs in disappointment with his ears down.

“Hey. I'll help you pick this up okay?” You hug his head and gently rub his neck.

Max smiles in gratitude. You help him pick up the apples and once you place the last one up, you turn around and yell in surprise.

The black horse stood a lot taller than Max and you look up at him, “Um….hello.” You see the name tag, “Axel.”

Axel just stares at you and sniffs at you before walking off.

You and Max just stare at him and glance at each other. “Is he new here?”

Max nod and snorts annoyingly.

Again, you continue on your way to Xavier's and finally spot him taking a break. You smile, “Hello Xavier!”

Xavier grins, “(____)! Good to see you again. What brings you here? Another book?”

I sigh in frustration and sit on a chest he had in his smithing area, “No. What I'm trying to find doesn't seem to be in any books.”

Xavier hums in interest, “Oh? What can you possibly be trying to find that these books do not possess?”

You glance around then hesitantly pull up your sleeve, “This.”

Xavier gently holds your arm, examining it and a thoughtful expression. “To tell you the truth. I do not know, though I have seen it once before.”

“Where?” You pull your sleeve back down.

“It's nothing but a myth. A story and the book is long gone.” He begins to start up his work space.

You move to stare at Xavier with pleading eyes, “What is the story?”
