I was looking at the picture above and I felt inspired and just began to write until I came up with this:
"You remember that there was a time when your home was full of life and colour. The people whose dusty pictures hung on the walls were once little children playing games in the sunny orchards and gardens. They used to chase each other through the hallways. The kitchen and rooms were always a beehive of activity with servants running around to clean and set things in place.
Elegant parties and grand weddings would take place in this old mansion. You could almost see where the bride would begin her majestic descent down the brightly polished stairway. All the hallways would be decked with flowers and ornaments by the servants. The rooms would be filled with people laughing and dancing the night away.
Now, there was no one. An empty silence filled the corridors of this large mansion. Cobwebs hung from the walls and ceilings pretty ornaments once did. A cold breeze stirred the dust and memories in the corners of the old house. The patter of little feet up the stairs could be heard no more. The sun was dim and hid its face. It was like the end of a long dream where everything was swept away in a fleeting moment."
I'm sorry guys. It's not really edited and its kind of bleh, I know, but I just wanted to tell you that this is really a great writing exercise.
You can start by looking at pictures that could invoke emotion and mystery
Oh, and all those people who enjoy creepy stories and/or Tom Hiddleston, you know where this picture is from..
Point is, we all gotta start somewhere and practice and I thought I'd share this neat way to strengthen your writing skills.
