Sick of Losing Soulmates

Her name was Lucy. Lucy Preston.

She was probably the most beautiful woman Jessica had ever met.

Even she, who usually felt very confident in the way she looked, felt a little self-conscious around the historian.

Oh yeah! The drop-dead gorgeous Lucy Preston was also an intelligent historian which was great.

She was pretty and smart.

What guy could resist that?

Jessica knew that Wyatt couldn't. Not because he was that kind of guy.

Because from the stories she got told about their missions, there was always one thing that kept repeating:

Lucy saving Wyatt or Wyatt saving Lucy.

Not to say her brain or good looks didn't help, either.

In the timeline where she had supposedly been dead, Jessica knew that there had been something between them.

It seemed like there still was. After all, Lucy acted about as surprised to see her as Wyatt had.

And every time Wyatt so much as touched Jessica, Lucy would quickly look away, biting her lip, looking as if she was holding back tears.

But then, she would get a grip and continue with what she was doing.

After all, she didn't need a man.

Did she?

Lucy knew that she wouldn't die seeing Jessica and Wyatt together.

But it sure as hell felt like she would.

Any time she found herself in the same room as them, she would extract herself from the situation and go and sit in her room and silently cry.

She wanted to scream, but she knew for sure that someone would hear her and try to console her. And that is not what she wanted.

The woman knew that she was being ridiculous. After all, it wasn't like Wyatt had went and neglected her. 

He still checked on her, still made conversation with her, still never ceased to worry about her.

Any time she caught herself becoming irritated with Wyatt, she would mentally chide herself.

The man had blamed himself for Jessica's death for years, and now she was here, alive and well.

Lucy knew she shouldn't let despair devour her. 

The man she loved was happy, and wasn't that all that mattered?

But a tiny part of her pleaded, What about me? Don't I deserve to be happy, too?
