Surprises

To say Wyatt had been surprised a lot that day was an understatement.

Of course, finding Lucy after six weeks of hoping she wasn't dead was the biggest and best surprise of them all.

Then came finding out her mom was Rittenhouse.

After that he had learned that she had kind of been forced to kill a soldier.

But one thing Wyatt Logan was NOT expecting and really threw him for a loop was seeing Lucy Preston curled up in the bed opposite his.

Her sleeping wasn't what surprised him. Of course she would be tired - it actually looked like she hadn't got an hour of shut-eye those entire six weeks.

No, what surprised him was that she had chosen his room, of all places, to crash.

He had shown her the room right next to his, the room he had had reserved for her for this exact occasion - when they rescued her from Rittenhouse.

But evidently, she hadn't really wanted a room to herself.

She also evidently didn't really want a blanket, as her small form was covered in nothing but the thin clothes that the team had scavenged up for her.

It was natural instinct for Wyatt to immediately want to cover her up and make sure she was okay.

And it was almost impossible for him to not want to touch her, to make sure she was real, that she was there.

That she was safe.

So he softly pressed a kiss to her forehead, checking to make sure that the covers were over her shoulders before turning to leave.

That's when he felt a tiny hand encircle his wrist, pulling him back down.

It would have been easy to pull away.

Lucy's grip was hardly strong enough to restrain a mouse.

But he would never pull away from her, if anything, it would be him pulling her closer, seeking her warmth that had been obviously missing for over six weeks.

She seemed to feel the same way, because she would not release her grip on his wrist - wait no - she had shifted and was now clutching his hand instead.

"Please don't let me be alone."

Now that statement really surprised him.

He looked down and found tears trailing down her cheeks, which made him want to punch a faucet again.

If he could take away all the horrible things that had happened to her, go back and prevent her from going home that awful day when Mason Industries got blown up, he would do it in a blink of her deep brown eyes.

But all he could do at the moment was be with her and try to comfort her as best he could.

It would have to do for now.

So he carefully climbed in the narrow bed and wrapped his arms around her, nestling his nose in her hair.

"Is this okay?" he whispered softly.

He felt her nod. "This is perfect."
