After the incident on the porch a few nights ago, I've gotten into drawing. I drew the kissing scene with deep detail. That is not the only thing I've drawn, I sketched all of my spouses. Memories that get to stay with me through drawings.
Alexis's social worker has put me in the system. I've heard whispers of Auara and Logan considering adopting me. A family would be nice, but being this optimistic has consquences.
Alexis and I are going to the same school, it turns out she was on winter break.
My door opens and Alexis walks in and ploops on my bed. I turn from my computer. "Hey." I say. Alexis nods at my laptop, "Whatcha doing?" I unplug it and hand it to her. She studies the picture on screen. "A graveyard?" Alexis questions.
"Grace Lensure is buried here. I want to visit her soon. Would you like to join me?" I ask. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think I saw a tear slide down Alexis's face. She hands me back the laptop. "I would be honored to meet your dead wife." I chuckle at her anwser. "Oh I came in to ask if you wanted to go on a run with me. You know immortals need their excerise too." Did she just call me "immortal"?
"First of all, I'm not an immortal and second of all yes I would love to go on a run with you. Let me get ready." Alexis nods then leaves closing my door. I change into my sweatpants and tanktop.
I walk downstairs to Alexis explaining where we will be. As Alexis and I walk out the door, Auara calls out "Call me if anything happens!"
We stretch first, then start off at a slow jog then gradually get faster. Due to my endurance to pain, I am going full speed with Alexis 30 feet behind me. She is drenched in sweat and panting worse than a dog.
"Not bad for and "immortal", huh?" I mock playfully. Alexis softly punches me in the arm. I spot a park to our right. I nod to the park. Alexis nods back and follows me to park. I get in the swing and Alexis gets in the swing next to mine.
In a few moments, I've built up so much force in my swing that the entire swing set is shaking. I leap from the swing with so much momentum that I fly up about 40 feet and land hard on my ankle. I hear a loud POP. Alexis rushes over to me, laughing, and kneels next to me.
"That was so cool, but so stupid. Are you okay?" Alexis asks. I try to get up and put weight on my left ankle, the second I do it feels like someone has just run over my leg with a car. Before I can fall, Alexis grabs my waist and sets me back on the ground.
She grabs her phone and call someone. "Hi my soon to be foster brother might has just broken his ankle, can you send an ambulance please?" Alexis asks holding back more laughter. "Okay. Thank you." She puts her phone back into the waistban of her yoga pants.
Within 10 minutes, we are loaded into the back of the ambluance. The EMT uses special scissors to cut off my shoe and sock without causing me much pain. He rolls up my pant leg and asscesses my ankle.
My EMT is a short white man with blue hair and white glasses (yes I said blue hair). I glance at his name tag. Migel Shepherd. "Thank you for the help Migel. I appericaite it alot." I say offering my hand.
Migel looks up from my ankle an shakes my hand. "Its my job kid, no thanks needed. Now this might hurt a bit." He say with a slight Itailian accent. Migel grabs my heel and the upper part of my foot and, with a swift motion, he pops my ankle back into place.
"Fucking hell!" I yelp in pain. Migel, Alexis, the driver and the EMT in passenger all laugh. "Now you'll a brace and crutches for about 3 weeks." Migel expalins.
We pull into the hospital's emergency lane, Alexis and Migel help me out of the back of the ambulance and into a room.
...
Alexis's parents walk into my room. The nurses have my foot propped up. "What happened, Alexis?" Auara asks sounding disappointed. Before Alexis could say anything, I intervened. "It was my fault. I jumped out of a swing and thought I could stick the landing. This is all my fault." My truthful answer must have surprised Auara because she immedaitely smile and apoligized for the attitude she gave Lexi.
The doctor walks in. He looks up from his clipborad. I see his face. I know him. It is Grace's father. John Lensure. He died a long time ago. How is he here? John looks at me in disbelief but quickly recovers from his surprise.
John introduces himself to Auara and Logan, using a different name that I didn't catch. He explains that sense that I don't have a medical file that he has to draw blood and give me physical. As soon as Alexis and her parents are out of listening range.
"Well well well. If it isn't Caspain James. Long time no see." John says. Every mentally falls into palce. The note, the money, everything.
"You died? How are you still here, John?" I ask, extremly uncomfortable. "Caspian you and I are more alike than you think. We both have the same issue." The way he emphamsizes the word issues, my skin crawls.
"I was the one who cut you down from that tree you hung yourself from. The money on your desk? Me. What a waste of a gift you have"-John speaks in a dark voice- "There aren't anymore people like us, you know that right? We are the last ones of us. Our people were called the Dhawrista it is Somali for Immortal. I thought I was the last of us until the night you walked Grace home. Now use your gift wisely or else." John threatens.
Not another word was spoken from him. He handed me my prescription for pain meds, put the brace on my leg, got me walking on crutches, and then walked me back to the waiting room.
This isn't good. Not good at all.
