It was 10:50 in Grimsborough as the whole city prepared to welcome the new year. The Police Department had been put on duty, of course, but that wasn't going to stop them from having a good time.

"Hey, Alexander." David Jeremiah Jones grinned as one of the two technicians walked upstairs, a child at both of his sides.

"Jones for the love of god not this again. Yes, Alexander is my name but can you please call me Alex?" The younger man growled, glaring at the usual partner for new recruits.

"Sorry, sorry. I still can't get over the fact that Alexander is your real name."

"Well, deal with it."

"Haven't seen these two in a while. How're they doing?" Jones ruffled the children's hair.

"Sarah got over a small cold that Cathy's been worried about the entire week and Daniel's been fine."

"I have a present for them as well as Samuel and Donna, if they're here." Grace called from Jones's office

"So, you tease me for my name..." Alex began

"Alex, I wasn't teasing. I'm sorry I swear!"

"When you're probably all hanky-panky with Grace in your office?"

"I-I..."

"Jones I can't believe you got her to go out with you."

"W-well it took a lot of convincing..."

"Samuel! Donna!" The pink haired technician ran up the stairs calling the names of her oldest children

"Cathy? What's going on?"

"The kids, Alex! I can't find them!" Cathy snapped frantically

"What?! I thought they were with you!"

"They were and then they ran off..."

"Ran off?!"

"Hey, I tried to grab them!"

"CATHY! ALEX!" Nathan yelled from the morgue

"Found them." Alex said to which Cathy was not amused by her husband's half-assed jokes

"Come on, Cath, cheer up. You've been grumpy all week."

"You try taking care of a sick kid while wondering what the HECK the other is getting into."

"Trust me, I know."

"God damnit you two, can't you keep your kids confined in your office?" The coroner snapped in annoyance

"Sorry, Uncle Nathan..." they both mumbled

"Hey, Nathan, language around them. They're only five... and three." Alex finished, losing his confidence

"Nathan, leave Alex alone. It was technically my fault. They ran off and I couldn't catch up to them." Cathy panted as she ran up the rest of the stairs

"They're your kids. That's why you're called parents."

"Nathan remember back in summer when I kicked you in the nuts for doing this sort of thing?"

"Yes..."

"I'll do it again if you like."

"Understood, Cathy. I'm sorry."

"You better be. Come on, kids. You too, Alex." The four children followed their mother like ducklings as Alex followed after them.

"They better not stay here all week." Nathan growled before turning back to the morgue. He didn't really know how to act around children, especially the nieces and nephews of Samuel and Donna King.
