By the next morning, he had again put on his cape. Even though his eyes were pretty red, his smile never left his face. Some of the boys and girls came and gave their condolences but he waved them off, saying, “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. Everyone has to die some or the other day. We cannot hold on to something our whole life.”
Disaster struck on the last day of our semester, when Dan and I were sitting near one of the garden and doing some homework.
“Hey! Look who is there! Cry baby and his beloved wife...” Once again, it was Shawn Felton.
“Whom are you calling ‘cry baby’ and ‘WIFE’?” I interrupted.
“Oooooo the wife is getting all protective.” By then, quite a crowd had formed around us.
“What did you think? No one saw Daniel crying in your arms that day? Well, I did.” He approached us with a look of revenge in his eyes.
“What are you trying to do here?” I asked with my arms folded.
“I am here to take my revenge, and revenge is much sweeter when it is taken upon, not only the one who has hurt you, but also whom he or she loves”, Shawn replied in a menacing whisper. He gave Dan a sinister look and then moved backwards, laughing.
“People”, he addressed to the crowd, “you are looking at a married couple right now.” There were shocked gasps from everyone.
“Shawn, stop that crap right now!” Dan threatened.
“Crap? Are you calling your marriage crap? Your wife wouldn’t like that. Am I right MRS. DANIEL SMITH?” he asked with a ridiculous smirk.
“No. You are absolutely wrong. We are NOT husband and wife, and it’ll be better for you if you apologize for your uncouth behaviour.” I was literally trying my best to not kill him.
“Probably you don’t remember. No worries. I’ll remind you. That day, when Daniel was sitting near the river, crying in your arms, I was there too, with my girlfriend. After about half an hour, you two got up and instead of going to the hostel, you went out of the campus. We followed you, and saw you two heading towards a pub. You went in there, got drunk and ran off to a marriage magistrate court. Do you not remember a thing?”
“You can’t remember something that never happened. I’m warning you for the last time. Shut up and apologize, or you’ll have to bear the consequences.” Now, I was really fuming with rage. He advanced towards me and said, “What will you do? Nothing. You’ll do nothing.” Just then he took out a pocket knife, took Dan’s hand, swerved him so hard, he might have broken Dan’s hand, and held the knife across his neck. All of this happened so quickly, it hardly gave me time to do something. There were gasps from the crowd, some of shock and some of anger.
“Shawn! What on earth are you doing?! Drop that knife NOW!” I yelled. By then, most of the teachers and the Principal had also joined the crowd.
“Oh! So you expect me to follow your commands like a stupid soldier and forgive Daniel for his behaviour towards me that day?”
“That was weeks ago. Why are you avenging him now? In fact, why are you at all avenging him? It was your mistake. Aren’t you old enough to know where your boundaries are?”
“HE SHOULD NOT HAVE SCREAMED AT ME! Instead, he should be grateful that I waited so long to take my revenge. If I had told my father about this, he wouldn’t have seen the next day’s rising sun.”
I calmed myself. I knew that there was absolutely no way to PHYSICALLY fight Shawn. He had bulging biceps and triceps and had a huge body. I had to use my wit.
“What urged you to wait so long, Shawn? Why did you not inform your father about this?” I had lowered my voice, moved closer to Shawn and had started circling him. “When you saw us exiting the college, why didn’t you stop us?” While asking this last question, I had already formed my position behind Shawn, and was ready to...
“Woah!! Shit!!!”... kick him behind his knees. Dan saw this as an opportunity to release himself from Shawn’s grip and snatch away his knife.
“You bloody...” Shawn blurted when...
“Keep QUIET”... I interrupted him. He had fallen down on his knees and was resorting to curse words. I gave him a slight push with my left foot, so that he fell on the ground. I stepped on his hand in which he was initially holding the knife and said, “Use that language somewhere else. What do you think of yourself? Just because your father is a VIP, it doesn’t give you the right to roam around with an arrogant and smug air. You see, it’s really a funny scene – a donkey walking around with his head full of insolence, mockery and vanity.” I took his other hand (with which he had swerved Dan) and broke his fingers. How dare he harm Dan? Now, he was ACTUALLY crying.
“What happened? You’ve built such a muscular body and yet, your capacity to endure pain is so low? Come on! How will your father feel when he hears that you were CRYING in front of the whole college?” There were muffled giggles from the crowd. Our Principal then came forward and said, “That’s enough for now. We’ll take him to the nurse immediately. Ms. Evans and Mr. Smith, may I see you in my office, please?”
Hi!! So this is the next chapter. Shawn is really horrible, isn't he? And what do you think of Scarlette?? An ideal feminist, right? ;)
