I woke up with a start. The room I was in seemed blurry and unfamiliar. As I rubbed my eyes I went towards the window and opened it, allowing a cold breeze in.
The wide white window held a view of the breathtaking rising sun and the shawdows of tall oaks at some distance. The sight was still new to me.
We had sold our old apartment and moved to another house on the other side of town. Luckily it was closer to my school. I had been attending Kingston High since the past six years. It was a small private school at the centre of the Greenacres, from where students attended from all over town.
Today was the first day of the new semester after our summer holidays. I was excited to meet my friends after the long break and see which classes were we in.
I didn't want to become late so I immediately went to the bathroom to get ready. I quickly washed my wheat blonde hair and dried it and then wore a pair of black jeans with a white flowy tank top, pairing them with my white Nike sneakers.
Applying lip gloss and wearing my black frames I ran down down the stairs.
"Leave fast, you're going to be late." I heard my mom say from the kitchen.
"Leaving.", I yelled grabbing my black leather bag and an apple as I jogged out and locked the door. It was already 7:00 am and I had to reach school in fifteen minutes.
A couple blocks away from home, and towards the left turning of the crossroad, I saw two people walking towards me.
It was Ryan and Amy.
I knew Amy Holland since I was 10. She was slim and taller than me, with a killer figure and brown wavy hair she was gorgeous. She was an introvert when with strangers but with her friends she was a wild person. She was a really good friend of mine.
Ryan Price. We had known each other since we were kids and had attended the same classes till Grade 5. Though we did drift apart after that, by 8th grade we had become good friends again. He was the funny, always by your side through thick or thin kinda friend.
One of the main reasons we became close was because the three of us stayed in the same neighborhood. They both stayed on the street behind mine, with houses three blocks away from each other. It was a walkable distance and hanging out became easier.
We were three different people who unexpectedly became friends. I never even thought that Ryan would become such a close friend of mine. And Amy was a blessing, she was the sweetest girl ever and was always there for me no matter what.
"Nicky what are you thinking about ?", Ryan asked curiously as I didn't respond to him speak before. His soft brown hair was sticking out messily as his chiseled face gleamed in the sunlight.
"Nothing." I replied hurriedly, realising that I had got lost in thought and forgetting about the conversation.
"I'm pretty sure your thinking about me, like who can't stop thinking about this gorgeous face.", He joked rubbing his chin.
"In your dreams." I answered rolling my eyes making Amy laugh.
"You guys, we're going to get late if you'll don't hurry up." She said smacking our heads and jogging ahead.
"You brat." Ryan yelled wincing and running after her making me laugh and join the chase.
We reached school a couple of minutes before time and we made our way towards the lockers. Ryan waved bye and walked towards a group of guys who called his name.
As me and Amy removed our books, I saw a blonde girl running towards me. Vanessa Hart, my best friend. We became close in Grade 6 and have been inseparable since then.
"Nicolee, I missed you soo much." She yelled hugging me.
"I missed you too Nessa.", I said smiling. I noticed Amy waving me bye from behind her to tell me she was heading to class, to which I nodded her to go on.
"Did you enjoy your trip ?" I asked her.
"Yess !! I did, it was amazing !!! I even bought you something.", She said excitedly removing a wrapped gift from her bag.
I opened it to find a really cute golden heart locket which had engraved carvings.
"Aww, I love it Nessa. Thank you so much." I said hugging her.
"Yeah I know I'm amazing." she said flipping her hair, making me laugh.
That's when the bell rang, so we both hurried to our respective classes. It turned out that me and Amy had more classes together while I only had one class with both Vanessa and Ryan. But it didn't matter cause we even met during lunch time in the cafeteria.
I was excited to see who all were gonna have the same class as me. When I entered the class I realized that other than Amy there were only a few people that I usually talked too. I saw Amy sitting on the third last bench talking to two other girls, so I went and sat on the empty seat behind her.
That's when our teacher entered and introduced herself. We had an interactive session as it was the first day of class. I socialised with many people whom I had never spoken too.
I recognized many boys from the football team and the girls athletic's team that ended up in my class, also few of the students from last year and whom I had few classes with before. I knew them all but I had never spoken to most of them.
"So how's it being a freshman ?" Amy whispered excitedly.
"I don't know... Studies ain't going to be easy anymore", I replied.
"That's true. But I know with some effort we can do it." She said.
"Maybe you, but not me." I chuckled.
"Stop being so depressed, it's the first day of school. Also, there's a Fresher's party at Karen's house today at 7 pm."
"Oh shit. I won't be able to make it... I've got... Yeah, I've got to do homework" I stammered.
"Shut the fuck up Nicole. It's the first day of school we haven't even got any homework. Your coming. Whether you like it or not. If your not ready by 6:30, me and Ryan are going to drag you out in your PJ's. You got it ?"
I just sighed. It was no point arguing. Amy always wins in such arguments.
Anyways wouldn't a party be fun ?
Would it...?
