Chapter 2

P.O.V. Adrian

'Where am I?' Adrian thought to himself. He felt as if he had been run over by a truck. He could feel tell that he was lying on something soft. He opened his eyes. It was pitch black wherever he was. Was this some sort of sick joke his father was playing? The last thing he could remember was a soft hand pressing into his wrist. He remembered seeing someone standing over him before he blacked out again. He sat up and hits his head and lets out a loud curse.

"What's going on in here?" someone rushes into the room. A light is turned on and reveals a small young woman about five foot in height, with flaming red hair and emerald green eyes.

"Who are you?" he asks.

"Shouldn't I be asking who you are?" she retorted. He thought about that for a moment before she went on. "You are the one that was passed out on my property. I'll ask the questions. Thank-you very much." She stared at him for a while before she averted her gaze to his bare chest sporting a new black and blue bruise. She looked away, "Are you ok?" she asked him, blushing slightly.

"No, if you must ask. My entire body hurts like someone was beating on me with a baseball bat!" he shouted.

"You don't need to yell. I didn't mean to hit you that hard," she laughed slightly.

"Oh, so it was you who hit me. Well, thanks a lot," he said. 'Oh, great this is the girl father has chosen for me. She doesn't even seem like a girl.' he thought to himself.

"So who exactly are you?" she asked him.

"Your parents sent me. They are good friends of our family and agreed to let me stay here for a while. I needed to get away from everything for awhile. I will be staying here for about three months. My name is Adrian, it's nice to meet you," he explained. With that she stormed out of the room.

P.O.V. Vera

'Yeah, it sounds just like my parents to do something like this. Without even telling me that a strange man was coming to stay with me.' Should she even be believing his story though. He could be just another con-artist trying to get her inheritance. There had been many of those over the years, that was part of the reason she left. She didn't want to ask her parents though, she hadn't talked to them nearly a year and she didn't plan on it anytime soon. After what they did to her, she didn't care if she ever saw or talked to them again. Nothing would be solved tonight and she had to get up early tomorrow for chores. With that she went to her bedroom and locked the door but she had a hard time falling asleep, thinking about a strange person in the house. What was that? Was that footsteps?

She heard a soft knock at her door. Should she answer or just ignore him till the morning? With that she chose the latter, but he continued to knock. "Um, I'm sorry to bother you but where is your bathroom."

She felt relieved that that was all he wanted. "It's across from your room," she mumbled and with that she fell asleep.
