I tugged my hand from Ryu's, letting a disturbed expression slip on to my face. He ignored it and sent me home to pack. I walked out of his house and felt like I was walking out of a movie theater, dazed and confused. The car ride home was a blur and only when my car was in my apartment's parking lot did the information sink in. I gripped the top of the steering wheel, setting my forehead on the wheel with caution. what have I come to?
How long am I staying? what's my job?
I excused the thoughts and concerns by physically shaking my head and letting my hands rest on my cheeks. My fingers felt cold and ashy. My hands matched the clear night atmosphere, crisp and frigid. Fists clenched by my side, I walked quickly to my apartment door. After fumbling with my keys and unlocking the door, I felt my hand hover over the handle. Walking in, 1 of the 2 scenarios could happen. 1. I pack and head back to Ryu
2. I walk in, collapse on to my bed, and never see Ryu again. I knew the latter was desirable but unachievable. I barged in to my own room, grabbing the suitcase I kept in the unexplored corners of my closet, and filling it with every article clothing insight. Though I wondered what I should pack, and for how long, I didn't pause and kept shoving more and more clothes inside. The lack of care was obvious, all of the clothes were unfolded and unorganized, they sat in the case like a mini mountain. Plopping down on to the suitcase, I zipped it close with maximum effort. Every time I felt concerns slipping through my mental filter I moved faster. I didn't think, I just did. And I did that all the way to Ryu's house, only letting the regret consume me on his doorstep. Ryu welcomed me to his home again, slipping a silver key into my hand. "You're gonna need this" he said with a wink. At least, I thought it was a wink. His eyepatch made it difficult to tell. As if reading my thoughts, his face twisted in to a scowl. He put his hand over his eyepatch, and with a flicker in his eye(s) I could tell he was about to make an impulse decision. He pulled it off. "Oh" I said in suppressed in shock. His eye looked like an oil spill. The pupil was normal, but some of it spilled out on the whites of his eyes, like an egg with a broken yolk. "It's a birthmark,"he said defensively. He clasped his hands over it, glaring at me with his other eye. "Don't stare!" I couldn't help but want to see it again, it was strangely beautiful.
For the first time, I voluntarily touched him. I gripped his wrists and pulled his hands away from his eye. He tended up at first, but didn't protest. His eyes stared back at mine. The pupil was like a galaxy, expanding. I took my gaze off of his eye and looked at him as a whole. He was a blushing mess, even though he was scowling even harder than before. I gave him a friendly smile "so" I dropped his hands "my room?".
Ryu opened his mouth to speak, but at the top of the grand staircase, a sugary voice interrupted. "Where's the snacks dumb a-"
Aneko was strolling towards the top step until she paused. She looked shocked but amused. I was confused until I realized I hadn't leaned back, and was still only 2 inches away from Ryu. Before I could back away and apologize, Aneko had swooped down like a hawk and took me and my luggage. She dragged us up the stairs, her grip on my wrist was painful. Thought I felt like my wrist was going to snap off, I didn't protest, she wasn't a force to be reckoned with.
