"Mr. Santos you have to understand that you shouldn't be taking bribes from parents." My dad said. "It's actually against the school board policy."

We were sitting in his office, we just caught him before he left. I didn't think my parents would care much but my dad did.

"I know what the policy says. I know how I'm supposed to do my job." He said with a laugh.

"Then do it, properly. You're, supposed to kindly decline the offer. I am hoping that you will fix your mistake." My dad sighed. "Or I may have to speak with the board about your actions."

Mr. Santos' eyes widened and he leaned towards us, staring us dead in the eyes but saying nothing. He then sighed and leaned back. "Fine, I'll give her back the money as long as you don't go to the board."

Praise God.

"Thank you so much Mr. Santos." I sighed of relief.

"All this for a irrelevant, old, broken bench Ava? Really?" He rolled his eyes.

"It's not irrelevant. That bench is the only thing I have left of my grandmother and I won't just stand here and let you tell me that your going to remove it. I don't know if you were close to your grandmother when you were younger, but the only time I got to see mine was Wednesdays because of my dance schedule. My mom only allowed me to have one day off of dance during the week, Wednesday. So every Wednesday after school, we'd both get vanilla ice cream with blue sprinkles on top from the ice cream truck that parks across the street at 3:00." I say tears starting to form in my eyes. "So to you it might be an 'irrelevant, broken bench' but to me it's a lot more then that."

"Let's go, mija." My dad stood up and we left the office my arms around his torso and his arm around my shoulder.

As we walked something clicked in my head. I missed the cheerleading tryouts.

I ran into my room and threw myself on my bed. I opened my phone and called Olivia.

"Hey Ava, what's up?"

"WHAT'S UP? We missed cheerleading tryouts!"

"Oh yeah, that."

"Yeah, hoe. That."

"It's okay, not like she would even take me." She sighed. "Anyway, did you save the bench?"

"Yeah, my dad threatened him." We both laughed and it reminded me of when Kallie and I used to stay up all night laughing on the phone.

I don't know what happened to that Kallie, my Kallie.

I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard a raging voice call Olivia's name. "I gotta go. Bye." She hung up quickly.

That was weird?

I ran back downstairs to the kitchen and a few minutes later, the door opened.

"You're amazing!" My mom's voice rang through the house.

"I am not that good." Aubrey responded with a laugh.

They walked in and Audrey looked like she just finished practicing.. ballet? I didn't know she did ballet as well.
