"Hyeji, sit down. We need to talk" my mom speaks in a soft tone. I silently pull out a stool and take a seat.

"What's up?" I rest my chin on my hands and look up at her as she places the knife on the bench, pausing from preparing dinner.

"We need to talk about your relationship with Yuta" she makes eye contact with me and I immediately lean back in the seat, realising I am not going to like what I am about to hear.

"If you want us to break up, that isn't going to happen. I love him, mom. I really do" I state firmly and she scoffs and shakes her head.

"You are 19, Hyeji. You aren't even 20, yet you are dating a 21 year old. Yuta runs his own business, or is setting it up, do you think he wants to have a teenager clinging onto his arm?"

I look at her in pure confusion and hurt as I try to figure out where this is coming from.

"He loves me. He is naming the cafe after what I called his coffee when he first made it for me." I smile at the memory.

It was after I graduated and moved into his apartment. He made a coffee and it was amazing. I called it his Osaka blend as it was his special recipe and he is from Osaka in Japan.

"Kim Hyeji. You need to listen to me. You are so young. Do you really want to continue this relationship then look back when you are 50 and regret not seeing anyone else? You are young and beautiful. Don't let Yuta keep you from your living your life."

She walks around from the other side of the bench and gently grabs my shoulders as she leans to speak into my ear.

"Don't repeat my mistakes with your father."

I tense at the statement. Mom married dad two years after graduating and has never been with anyone else. She had me and my brother before realising that our dad was just a prick who was with her because of her family's money. As soon as we were born, he left and never came back.

I don't want that to happen to me.

Surely Yuta wouldn't be with me for those reasons. Surely he is with me out of love.

I'm letting her get to my head. I am seriously doubting our relationship now.

"Do you really want to tell your children that you met their father when he served you a coffee as you were on a school excursion? That he just added his number to the cup?"

She continues to talk which makes my head spin even more.

"I'm hungry. I came for dinner not to sit and admire the paint on the wall" Jungwoo whines as he walks into the kitchen.

He pauses when he sees the two of us and instantly pulls our mom away as he grabs my shoulder, spinning me on the stool so I am facing him.

"What did she say?" He looks at me, his expression filled with worry.

He has never liked our mother. He blames her for the disappearance of our father. He doesn't think she was telling the full story when she said he ran away.

I forget that I am older sometimes. He is so much more bright and mature then me. We have an age gap of 30 seconds as we are twins. We don't look like each other though.

This one lady at a grocery store thought we were dating when we were getting the groceries in year 8.

"I need to see Yuta" is all I say before getting off the stool and rushing out the door.

I know what I am about to do next will break me.

--

I open the door to the apartment and I smile sadly when I see Yuta watching TV.

He smiles that healing smile of his as he sees me. That expression quickly turns to worry as he rushes over to me.

"You're crying?" He wipes my tears with his thumbs and looks me in the eye, waiting for an explanation.

"You're 21 and I'm not even 20. Do you really think you can run a business with a teenager clinging onto your arm?" I cut straight to the chase.

"What are you saying? Of course I can. Hyeji, you aren't a teenager in my eyes. I love you so we can do this together" He caresses my cheek but I pull back from his touch.

He's only making this harder for me.

"I'm scared Yuta" I begin to sob and he pulls me into his warm embrace. He hushes me and I just push him away again.

"Let's break up."

"W-What?" he stutters and looks at me in confusion. "If you are scared then I will make you feel safe. We can work through this."

"Please let us have a mutual break up. This is really hard for me Yuta." I plead and my heart breaks as I see tears forming in his eyes.

"I won't let you go that easy" He states firmly.

"Then I have no choice but to break up with you." He goes to say something else but I stop him.

"I'm sorry. I should go."

I leave him standing, shocked as to what just happened as I leave the apartment.
