“The door opened…” I heard Subaru mutter.
So…the chief’s intuition was right…
A large flash temporarily blinded me and I covered my eyes. When the flash disappeared, I slowly opened my eyes. My eyes widened at the sight.
“Wha…”
There was a small temple with greenery surrounding the area. That wasn’t the weird part. The droplets that were flying through the door started to float. There was light from above which came from a small lake that lead to the waterfall.
The water of the lake is… floating?!
I was so surprised by the scene that I didn’t notice the hostage, Ester was already halfway to the temple.
I quickly hit Subaru on the back of the head to wake him up from his awe and jogged over to the hostage.
“Oi—“ I started to shout, but stopped.
The hostage put her hand on a button on another door, making it open once again. The door lead down to some sort of basement. The way was lit with glowing teal lines.
“Wait up guys—Woah.” Subaru panted, once again astonished.
Ester was about to walk down the stairs, but I quickly pulled her back.
“What did I say about not doing anything foolish.” I growled in her ear.
“Eh?” The girl seemed startled, as if she were pulled from a trance.
I glared at her for a moment and then turned away, “Nothing…”
…………………………………………
“Nothing…” Ryuu growled and walked down the stairs.
Then I looked around and realized how beautiful this place was.
“Wow…”
“Hey usagi-chan, I know you’re amazed and all, but we kind of have to move… So can you go?” Mitsuhara said with a malicious smile.
I shuddered and then hurried down the stairs.
When I got to the bottom, I found myself surrounded with walls of script some language which wasn’t my own, but yet I somehow understood it. There was a faint glow coming from the sides of the room.
What…
“Woah, there sure is a lot of writing here.” Mitsuhara said, letting out a whistle.
Ryuu was looking at some of the writings on the wall, but I was more focused on the picture engraved into the wall opposite from where we were standing. There was something etched into the ground…
“This is ancient language right here…” Mitsuhara said, looking at the walls. “They taught us about this… But I didn’t pay attention to it since it was so boring.”
Ryuu walked over to me. “What did you find?”
I stared at the etched words. ‘Beware of the….’ The last word was scratched away… deliberately. It was also stained with something… dark.
Chills ran down my spine. I took a look around, and I noticed those same dark stains all around the room. The middle of the room though… was darker than the rest. Not because it was old, it looked more like a huge blood stain that was washed off in a hurry.
Bloodstain… Beware…
The picture showed many different animals together, happy and content. However, there were figure in the shadows of the trees…
Beware…
This place… was the start of the war.
Beware of…
The room seemed to spin as I tried to think more about it.
“Oi, oi!!” I heard Ryuu’s voice echo in my head.
Everything seems so far away…
Then… There was darkness.
