Evan's POV

"Evan Fong, come down here this instant!" My father yelled.

I rubbed my eyes and walked down the stairs. My dad and Mom were sitting on the couch.

A random villager was sitting there too, starring at me. I looked at them confused.

My dad sighed. "Were you with a.." He hesitated for a second. "Vampire last night?" He asked.

I was surprised for a minute. I looked down at my feet. I saw my dad tear up. "Evan... why?" My mom asked as she supported my dad.

"Because they are not what they seem. I understand that we've been enemies for centuries but it doesn't add up." I protested.

My dad stood to his feet and put his hands on my shoulders. "It doesn't need to add up. Go to your room, you made a big mistake." I balled up my fist and stormed off to my room.

I slammed my door and flopped on my bed. I curled up and looked out the window. I hope Jonathan is okay.

Jonathan's POV

He smacked me. "You little ass! You know what could have happened if he attacked you?!" I stayed silent.

"Answer me Jonathan!" He yelled. "I don't care what would have happened! I don't want to be king! I want Mom!" I said, crying in the process.

"I hate it here!" I continued. I got up and ran out the castle doors. I ran all the way to the border.

I sat there and cried into my knees. I loved Evan, but we can't be together because of what we are.

It sucks. It hurts. I just want to be with him. Thinking about this made more tears fall.

I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around my tiny body. I looked up and saw Luke. I immediately wrapped my arms around his neck.

He hugged my waist. I cried into his chest. He pulled me into his lap. For years he was the only one keeping me here.

He was the best friend I could have ever asked for. We were like brothers. We had an unbreakable bond.

He rubbed circles into my back. "It's okay Jon." He said soothingly. "No it's not, I lost him." He shushed me.

"Jonathan look at me." He placed his hand on my chin and made me look up at him. "You didn't lose him. There's just a challenge in the way. You need to fact this challenge and conquer it. It won't be there forever. I promise."

I hugged him tight. "You always know how to make me believe Luke. That's what I love about you. I believe in your words Luke." I said.

"I know you do Jonathan. Just keep believing that at the end of this dark tunnel, is a beautiful field."
