Paige POV
Louis had told me to wait for him, but what for? At this point, I wanted to go home. Don’t get me wrong---Louis was a great guy. He was there to support me when even my family was gone. Louis and I had instantly clicked. Although I was embarrassed, I couldn’t just walk out on him after all the trouble he’d gone through to help me. Louis had a fun, caring, and sweet personality. I loved the way he could make me laugh at everything, and how his smile lit up the room. My heart rate picked up every time my eyes met his shimmering, teal orbs.
Just then, I heard the faint sound of ‘Hey There Delilah’ coming from the stage. As much as I wanted to listen to Louis sing, I was soon interrupted by a light buzz in my pocket. I pulled my phone out, only to see it was a call from my mom. Great. Why was she calling? She didn’t care about me and she didn’t even bother to show up for my audition. I grudgingly answered her call.
“Mom? Why are you calling?” I spat out, unsure of her response.
“Where the hell are you?! And what are you doing?!” By the tone of her voice I could tell she wasn’t in a very good mood.
“Mom, I told you. I’m at the X-Factor auditions.”
“Paige.... We’ve already discussed this. Singing is one tough career path, and I don’t support your decision to pursue it,” Her voice was tense as she continued on, “Paige, please come home now. You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into.”
“Mom, this is my dream, it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.”
“I’m your mother and you will listen to what I say! This is unacceptable behavior. Your father and I have bigger things to worry about.” I could hear the anger boiling in her voice.
“Why can’t you forget about the divorce and be happy for me?” I then realized what I needed to do in order to fulfill my dreams. “Mom, if you’re not going to support me, I’m not coming home.” As the words slipped past my mouth, a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders. I finally stood up to my mom.
“Paige, don’t be that way.... You need to stop being the center-of-attention. You are a beautiful, young girl, but you need to know that singing is not right for you.... You are going to be in big trouble when you come home tonight!” she exclaimed.
“Well, I’m not coming home. This is what I want to do, and nothing is going to stop me.” I quickly hung up the phone before she could reply. I replayed the conversation over in my head.... Her words cut me like knives. I let out a huge sigh as I slumped over in a nearby chair. I buried my head into my hands and sat there in silence. I wasn’t sure how I was feeling as mixed thoughts flooded my mind. I didn’t have anywhere to go, and I only had enough money for gas. How was I going to make my dream come true when I didn’t even make it past my audition? Now I was really screwed. Did I just make the worst decision of my life? Or was this going to turn into something big?
I soon felt a strong, comforting hand lightly stroke my back. Surprised, I looked over to see Louis sitting next to me.
“Are you okay? What’s wrong, love?” he asked kindly.
I told Lou everything. I told him how my parents were going though a divorce, and how my family never supported me. “Both of my brothers are very smart and athletic, and my parents are immensely successful. When I initially told them I wanted to audition for the X-Factor, they all laughed in my face. They didn’t understand that this is everything I had ever dreamed of. I never really fit in with them, so they always made fun of me. They’re my family, and I know they love me, but I couldn’t take it anymore.” I then went on and explained the phone call with my mom, and all my emotions that had gathered up through time had spilled out. A sob escaped my mouth and my vision blurred as tears filled my eyes.
I felt Louis’s familiar hands pull me into his chest. He let my tears soak his white collared shirt as I cried helplessly. He tried to calm me down by whispering soothing words in my ear. At that moment everything seemed so right, all my problems faded away as Louis held me in his arms. I wanted this moment to last forever, but Louis slowly pulled away and spoke up.
“If you don’t have a place to stay, you’re welcome to stay with me at my flat until you get things sorted out.”
“You don’t have to do that for me, we barely know each other. I don’t want to intrude.” I replied, secretly loving the idea.
“Don’t worry about it! But I have to warn you of one thing...” I saw a smirk appear on his face and I knew he was up to something, “There’s only one bed.” he winked.
“Oh, I guess that means you’ll be sleeping on the floor!” I replied jokingly, punching his shoulder.
“Ouch!” Louis then took a dramatic fall to the ground, pulling me down with him. I fell on top of him and we laid there for a moment in silence, before I felt his arms wrap around my waist. I slowly leaned into him, our lips no more than an inch apart. I could feel his breath against my cheeks, sending chills down my spine. I was so lost in those gorgeous eyes, I didn’t have time to process what happened next. Before I knew it, Louis was tickling me until I was out of breath. By now he had shot up and darted out the room as I tagged along close behind.
“Oh, I’m gonna get you Lou!” I shouted, though I knew he couldn’t hear.
I followed Louis out the door and into the parking lot. I finally caught up as we approached his car. He opened the door for me and I gladly hopped in. He got in the driver’s seat and we were off.
“You gonna ask me how my audition went or what?” Louis chuckled as I blushed.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry, I’m so selfish!”
“Don’t beat yourself up! K? And it went great, by the way.”
“You made it! That’s fantastic! What’d they say?” Although I didn’t make it, I truly felt happy for him.
“Not much, but I guess they liked me enough to let me through.” He shrugged.
He turned up the radio and we sat listening to the music the rest of the way home. We eventually arrived at Lou’s flat. It was cleaner than you’d expect a teenage boy’s flat to be. It had a modern kitchen with a connecting living room. His black sofa was placed across the small flat screen TV. A red carpet rested in the middle of the room, giving his flat a comforting feel. Louis gave me a quick tour the rooms, leaving the bedroom for last. His flat wasn’t very big, but I was grateful I had somewhere to stay. We walked in his room, and it was a bit bigger than I had expected.
“And here’s where you and I will be sleeping.” Louis informed me as he pointed to the queen-sized bed placed in the middle of the room.
“Ew! No way Tommo! You’re sleepin’ on the couch tonight! I’m sleeping here alone!” I told him as I carelessly jumped onto his bed. Louis then jumped on the bed and landed on top of me.
“Get off me!” I yelled at him while struggling to push his broad, muscular figure off of me.
“Not until you let me sleep on the bed here with you!” He said trying not to crack a smile.
I began to protest, but figured it was useless. This was going to be a long night.
