______________Kelly was now facing the guy who meant nothing to her since the beginning of time. He was always the villain if you ask others. He actually likes being viewed that way. Luke. He was known for being a trouble maker and a heartbreaker. Getting into fights and always winning them no matter what it took. Not many ever dared to talk back to him. Except her. Kelly.
"What do you want Luke?" Kelly asked while feeling uncomfortable being pushed to the rigid wall. They were very close to each other.
"You know, I admire you Kelly," he said ignoring her question. He was inches away from her face. "the things you do to me-" Kelly interrupted Luke with a hissing voice.
"I've hardly done anything to you, you piece of crap!" Luke's grin made Kelly angrier. It wasn't easy to make her fume and she never was the kind of person to be hotheaded. But even his presence, she was feeling her blood boil each time. He pressed his body onto hers. She could feel his warm breath caressing over her skin. Even though she wouldn't want to admit it, she sometimes liked being this close to him"You tortured me mentally since junior year, you sociopath! I'm sick because of you, I have scars because of you, i have no one, all because of you!" She held back a tear. Luke let out a giggle while leaning towards her ear. She shivered.
"Now now, careful with the language miss. Summer has really changed you." He was still smiling and towering over Kelly creating dominance over her. She looked in his cold grey eyes.
"You haven't changed one bit." Said Kelly with fire flickering in her. It is true that she has gone through hell and back because of this specific young man. She trusted him, she let him in her bed and her heart and that's where everything went wrong. She then was humiliated, lied to, bullied. He created fears in her that she didn't even know existed. He made her cry to sleep and waking up with constant anxiety that maybe, he was still in that room. She cared for him and then she forgot to care about herself. Days were passing and she forgot that she had a body to feed and to care for. She was in constant war with herself but not anymore.
Kelly's trip across the ocean made her awaken. She had fun for the first time in years, away from her negative surroundings and away from Luke. She learned how to not give a damn and be independent from a single mother. She learned that her worth was not dependent to anybody but herself from an elder bartender. She learned that she was not a mouse, but a cat. A lioness from a young child in the park. She found herself free and happy around strangers that saw her eyes redden to the sad tears. She learned that a pure heart is good to have as long as it does not allow self doubt, hatred, ignorance and all kinds of negativity. She understood that Luke was not the villain, but her insecurities that she created were. She understood that not eating and blaming herself for what others did was making her miserable. She understood that happiness was not as easy as she thought. But she knew that she was a good fighter.
One thing Kelly didn't know was that she wasn't the only one who went to hell and back. Luke did as well. He wasn't always a narcissist who wanted everyone around him to hurt. He was once a pure child. But his purity was washed down with the alcohol that his father never dropped out of his hand. His innocence was burned together with his skin from all those cigarette buds planted in his flesh. His kindness faded as his father left him to blackout after a session of belts hitting his bare chest. After telling him he was worthless. That he was guilty for being born and taking the life of his mother. That he was nothing but a stupid child.
Kelly also did not know that Luke was not always lying. He enjoyed the times they were together. He didn't lie when he confessed his love to Kelly, he didn't lie when they were intimate, he didn't lie when he said that she was important to him. But his fears took over. He was always a firm believer that he could never get what he wanted. Him being happy was never possible without ending up with him getting hurt. He has always pushed himself away from people just because of that. He made people believe he was a monster so they would stay away from him. But he can never stay away from Kelly.
So the difference between Luke and Kelly was that one of them found their path to a free spirit while the other is trying to find it by trapping spirits. One already found their happiness while the other was looking for it in all the wrong places.
"Why are you like this?" Kelly asked changing her attitude and remembering an advice from a young lady. 'Being tough won't help you get through a tough person. But being sympathetic will give them a new light." She changed her attitude and gently grabbed his arm.
Luke was confused. He backed up and started walking away. Kelly was equally confused. It was the first time she saw a reaction like this on Luke's face.
The sudden emptiness made her feel cold and alone. Did she want him back? Did she feel sorry for her enemy?
