A storm was raging across from all over Japan, many were in their homes taking shelter from the rain. But in one of the many alleyways of Tokyo city underneath a broken car door that had long been dumped, were two children in ragged clothing trying to hide themselves from the rain. A young boy about the age of 13 and a girl around the age of 5, both being orphans and homeless, found each others on a whim.

They huddled together trying to keep each others warm, but it did not help them much due to the rain and pesky wind. The storm had been raging for two whole days and the children were starting to get hungry, not having eaten anything since the storm started. The boy knew if they did not move from their shelter to look for food soon, they would eventually die.

He then decided that it was time to move even if they would get wet during the process, he nudged the girl beside him making her look up at him with tired eyes. "It's time to move." The boy told her, she nodded and stood up. Clutching the boys arm, they started to make their way out from their little shelter.

No shop's they found were opened and were all closed up with no way of getting in. They continued to walk down road against the wind, the streets deserted by people except for themselves. They walked for many minutes, when they were about to give up they found a store with the lights on. They looked at each others with a new found hope, the boy then took the girls hand and started to run towards the store.

When they arrived they could see that the door was unlocked and walked in. It was very warm inside the store compared to the outside. The cashier who looked like he was in his mid fifties, heard the pingling noise and looked up from his magazine. He didn't expect seeing two young children in ragged clothing, wet from the rain. He stood up and walked towards the boy who pushed the girl behind him, "oi, kids. What are you doing here? You look like something the cat dragged in. Shouldn't you be home with your families?"

The boy just scowl at the man, the girl looked down tightening her grip on the boy's shirt. The cashier sigh, understanding that they were either runaway or orphans, scratching his head. He walked away from the kids towards one of the few aisles that had sandwiches, taking two of the items and two bottle of water, he walked back to the kids. He handed them out to them, but they didn't move from their spot. He sighed again getting irritated by their antics, "oi, you want the food or not? Don't worry about paying, it's on the house."

The girl did the first move, letting go of the boy's shirt she reached out her tiny hand towards the cashier. She hesitated at first seeing if he would take back his word, before taking the sandwiches from his hands and immediately went back standing behind the boy. She handed one of the sandwiches to the boy and they soon pulled of the plastic protecting the food and started eating.

At first they ate slowly, but soon when they understood how hungry they actually were, they started chuck it down. "Hey now, take it easy kids. Don't want something get stuck in your throats." He told them before handing out the water bottles, they took it and started to drink after they had finished eating the sandwiches. The cashier stood up about to walk behind his desk to give them both some towels to dry themselves when he heard a small shaky voice, "did you say something?" He asked and looked behind him, the boy looked at his right before answering him. "Thank you.." he mumbled out. The cashier smiles slightly, "so he can talk, huh? Don't worry about it kid. Can't have customers going hungry, now can I?"

He then got some towels and a blanket that he had stored and gave them to the kids. After they had dried themselves they sat in front of the cashier desk, with the blanket around them, finally warm. "You kids can stay here until the storm's over. Can't take you back to my place. No more room." They didn't answer, but he knew that they were grateful.
