Chapter 14 : Nico - Confessions
I look out my window from inside the dark cabin. The windows in the cabin are one-way, so the cabin appears to have no windows. I see Ashley running across the grass, toward my cabin when I see Valdez tear across the grass in the opposite direction. His hair is on fire. Again. Dude, how many times you you have to set your hair on fire accidentally before you figure it out? I think to myself. I shake my head as he and Ashley scramble to get up. Valdez runs off again, hair still on fire. Ashley knocks on my door. Should I open it? I think. I sit there for what feels like a minute and then finally get up to answer the door.
“Hey Nico, everyone’s going down to the beach and we wanted to know if you wanted to come.” She says.
“Who do you mean by everyone?” I ask her. “Well my friend Karina invited me and she told me I could bring my friends with me so, Leo, Jason, Piper, Percy an-” I cut her off, not wanting to hear anymore. “No sorry I can’t come”
“Why not?” She asks. “Is this because of you and Percy not being on the best terms? Come on Nico you don’t even have to talk to him just come. You’ll have fun.”
“No. I’m not coming.”
“Then tell me why. Give me a good reason as to why you aren’t coming and I’ll leave.”
“It’s embarrassing.” I say. She rolls her eyes.
“More embarrassing than dating a guy for two months then finding out he had been cheating on you and you were the only one who didn’t know? Yeah, I don’t think so. Spill.”
“Fine. But not here. Give me a minute.” I say closing the door in her face. I quickly change into my swimsuit, and put a plain black t-shirt on. Then, I go outside.
“That was more than a minute.” She says teasingly. I roll my eyes. “Come on.” I say grabbing her arm. “I’ll tell you, but not here. Let’s go.”
I lead her near the beach, then along the shoreline to a patch of rocks lining the water. I sit down, and motion for her to sit down next to me. I sigh. Am I really going to do this? I ask myself. I sigh. I guess I am.
“I like your brother.” I say.
“Nico, what’s wrong with that? I’m pretty sure everyone like him. He’s like the most popular guy here.” She replies
“No that’s not what I meant. I meant that I-” I stopped for a minute, not sure whether I should continue or not.
“Spit it out Nico. You can trust me.” Ashley said. I sigh.
““I… I like Percy. But not like a friend, more than that. I’m over it now. I was just a kid before, easily impressionable. I just… It’s complicated.” I look down at my feet, ashamed. “When I first met Percy, I was about ten years old, obsessed with this stupid card game Mythomagic. I basically idolized him. Then, my sister Bianca left for a quest and never came back. I blamed Percy. I never really come back to camp anymore, partially because of Percy, but for other reasons too.”
“Nico… I… I don’t know what to say… I had no idea…I didn’t even know you had a sister.” She said.
“No it’s fine. Whatever. I don’t really talk about Bianca anymore. And now I know it’s not Percy’s fault. She sacrificed herself for the other demigods on the quest.I guess I had to get it out of my system someday. I guess that day’s today. ”
“Does anyone else know?” She asks. I shake my head. “No. Just you, and Jason. Oh, and Cupid. That son of a-” “Uh Nico? I wouldn’t finish that sentence if I were you.” She interrupted. “Oh. Right. Thanks…” I say.
“And Nico? It’s okay that you like-”
“Liked” I correct her
“Right. Liked him. It’s perfectly normal.”
“You mean being gay?”
“Well yeah. It’s not a bad thing, it just makes your life a bit harder.” She explains. I don’t reply. We sit in silence for a few minutes.
“We should go back to the beach… They probably think Mr. D fed you to the Harpies or something.” I say, breaking the silence.
She laughs. “Yeah. Something like that… Wait, so you’re coming? To the beach? I thought…”
“Yeah well you guilted me into going. Plus, you made me realize that I’m just being a coward, hiding away like this. So let’s go.” I grab her by the wrist and pull her towards the beach. As we walk, I look over at her, laughing as I pull her along. She looks so perfect, long black hair blowing in the wind, her smile lighting up her entire face. I stop walking for a second.
“Why’d you stop?” She asks.
“I just wanted to say thanks.” I say
“What for? I didn’t do anything.” She replies.
“Yes, you did. You made me realize that it’s okay to be the way I am.”
“Oh. Nico look, I didn’t convince you of anything. You did that yourself.” She says. “But still. Thanks.” I say, hugging her. I think she was surprised because I felt her body tense up. But after a few seconds, she relaxed and hugged me back. “You’re welcome Nico. Just remember. You can tell me anything.” She says into my shoulder. “But maybe not right now. We should get going to the beach.” She says, releasing herself from my arms. I couldn’t help but feel slightly disappointed. I had kind of enjoyed our embrace. But I’m not exactly sure why.

OOOOOHHHHHHHH DRAMA!!!!! lol Anyways, hope you like that chapter, sorry for any mistakes it's not edited. My editor is currently taking her french exam :/ Anyways, you may be wondering why I have an editor. It's because I have a really hard time reading my own stories, therefore making it hard to edit my stories. But don't worry, the story is still mine, she just makes sure I make sense. She just started a while ago so I havent actually chaged anything yet, It's hard to get together to edit.
