It's past midnight, the rain is pouring, Heiji and Shinichi have just wrapped up a case and are currently sharing a meal in a dimly lit place that has horrible decor and even worse food, but it's the only one that's open and close enough to Heiji's house. They are the only guests there, only one employee present to service them; not that they demanded much service. They weren't hungry, not after what they had witnessed anyways, but they simply needed the energy and a break from the mess. It wasn't a wise idea to go straight to sleeping after a horrific case, not unless one wants nightmares, and Shinichi had enough of those. Having a comfort of another warm body would be enough to subdue his feelings.

He needed both comfort and a distraction and Heiji was a master at that; loud and overbearing. However, this time around, Heiji didn't feel like being the mood bearer of the party, as he was affected much the same way; they ate in silence. If probing the food with their chopsticks and taking a bate every now and then could be constituted as eating - he wasn't sure. Ordering meat was his worst mistake of the night, as it reminded him too much of the scene that awaited them 4 hours ago. A horrific display of a tortured body, a disemboweled corpse with signs that the body had been eaten. A psycho with a taste for human flesh, mentally ill and plagued with hallucinations - a wrapped view of reality. A person that took many lives apart from this one, a serial killer, that will never experience guilt for what he had done, much less understand what he did wrong. Insanity was a powerful tool, the serial killer not even recognising his own body parts as his own, torturing even himself - deriving pleasure from it too.

That put a damper on their good mood, logically. Shocked, horrified, and out of himself. He couldn't stand murderers, he hated crime and taking somebody's life and this case had two victims. The perpetuator, who was insane, born to mentally ill parents, lived in poor circumstances which only served to trigger his psychotic conditions even more - a man who was failed by the country and any social supper there was which led him to not only harm himself but others. His mental retardation and mental illness, lack of treatment, a good living environment and acceptance by the community was what shaped him to who he became. He did horrible deeds, but he couldn't be blamed - at least Shinichi couldn't blame him - because he himself was a victim of it. He never intended to hurt anybody, he probably didn't even have a taste for humans or rather the taste developed because of said illness. He didn't know, not untill proper, in depth analysis was done.

Shinichi despised him for what he had done, because he truly did horrible things and he wanted to blame he for what he had done, but he had trouble doing that when knowing what he did. It was a complicated case, invoking even more complicated feelings.

And Shinichi was in desperate need for a distraction, something that would take his mind off it, and hopeful make him forget what he saw or if he was lucky, about the case in general.

"I think it's time for us to go", was what his boyfriend said, and Shinichi couldn't agree with him more. He felt a pang of relief when Heiji took his hand, and intertwined their fingers as they were walking home from the restaurant; the darkness was daunting.
