I ran for a good hour, or at least it felt like an hour. It was dark by the time I stopped running. "might as well find a place to sleep for the night. I'll continue in the morning." I said to myself.
I searched for a place to stay for the night and ended up coming across a playground. "this will work, I'll just sleep in the slide and be gone before anyone comes to play in the morning." I thought. I dragged all my stuff up onto the playground equipment and found a spot that didn't look like so bad. I got out some clothes and made a pallet inside the slide. I used my duffle bag as a pillow. I guess I was really tired because as soon as I laid down I was out.
I woke up what I thought to be around 5 am. "Little kids probably won't even be up until around seven or eight." I thought. "Might wanna get a head start just in case though." I got up and repacked all my clothes I had used for the pallet. Once everythin was packed I headed out, walking in the same direction as the night before. "Nobody is even going to come look for me." I thought. This gave me more motivation to just keep going and never look back.
As the day went on I realize I haven't eaten anything since lunch the day before and I was starving. I had to look for some place to eat at. After I wandered around the street for a bit, I noticed a quaint little sit down diner at the end of the road. I headed into it and sat down.
When the waitress came up to me, she gave me a weird look but asked what I would like anyways. "water for now thank you" I said trying to be polite. "One moment then ma'am" she replied and walked away. I brought my bag up to my lap and began searching for money. "Shit" I thought. "I forgot to grab money, damnit!"
She came back with my glass of water and asked if I was ready to order. "should I tell her I don't have money?" I played the dilemma in my mind. "Just a plain hamburger with fries please" I caught myself saying. I guess my hunger took over and thought for itself. "Ok I'll be back right away with that." she sai with a smile as she jotted my order down and walked away.
"great." I said under my breath. "what am I going to do when I have to pay?" then it came to me. I was going to have to make a break for it when the check came. "that's all I seem to do, run" I thought. Moments later the waitress came back with my food and my mouth started to water. She put the plate down in front of me and said "careful, it's hot." I looked up at her with a "no shit" look on my face. That's when I noticed her name tag. Her name was Amy. I only had one friend back at home, Amy.
My face fell as I remembered her. "how could I just run off without telling her goodbye?" I thought. "maybe it was for the better. She might have told someone afterwards that I was leaving and that would've ruined everything." I reassured myself. I waved my thoughts away and started to pig out on my food.
When I was done, the waitress Amy came over. "anything else or would you like your check?" "check please" I said. "this is it. I have to run when she goes back. " Amy started to walk away and I got nervous. "what if I got caught. What if they send the police. They're gonna make me go back home" I worried. Amy was a few steps from being behin the door to where she wouldn't see me. I panicked. Amy closed the door behind her and without thinking any further my feet took control and ran my ass out of that place and down the street.
I heard, "punk-ass kids!" as I continued down the street. "mustve been the waitress" I felt so bad. It was the fist time I have ever done something like that before. It was relief when I realized I probably won't ever have to deal with them again. I stopped running and just walked. That's all I did for the next 19 hours, walk.
