Chapter 4

"Can I come in?" He asked in his deep voice.

"Mr. Harrison.. what?"

"Call me Kyle. We're not at school right now." He said nervously.

"Listen, you shouldn't be here. I don't want to cause you problems."

He overlooked what I said. Instead, he pushed me inside gently and shut the door behind us.

"Are you alone?" He asked.

"Yes, I live alone."

"You live alone? What about your dad?"

"He's away at the moment."

"Aren't you a little too young to be on your own?"

"I'm eighteen." I reminded him.

"Right. Sometimes I forget that you grew up."

Stating that he studied me from head to toe. I blushed under hisscrutiny. Just then I remembered how bad I looked. I straightened my long hair with my fingers, hoping it would stay in place, and rubbed my tears away.

"Why are you here?" I inquired.

"I shouldn't have treated you the way I did."

He spoke in a low voice. Another silent tear rolled down my face. His hand moved up and rubbed it away. I shivered. "It's not your fault if my sister died."

"I shouldn't have asked. It's none of my business. You're my teacher."

"We're old acquaintances. You were my sister's best friend.I have something for you."

"What?"

"I have kept it for years. Alice wrote a letter to you. But she never made it in time to post it. Here."

Saying that he handed me a yellowish envelope.

"Oh!"

"I should have posted it, but during that period I was a wreck."

"It doesn't matter."

"I'm sorry." He said then.

"I have it now."

"No. I'm sorry for yelling at you, it won't happen again."

"There is no need to apologize." I insisted. My heartbeat increased each time he looked into my eyes. I could hardly breathe. It was an amazing feeling, yet I was so terrified of what I was feeling.

"I should go now." He said then. "I should return to school."

"Thanks, Kyle."
