After the first trial, we had our meals and healed ourselves the best we could. We, and I mean everyone who got injured, were in for a little surprise. I woke up the next day, and felt a cloth around my arm where I had been shot. The pain wasn't as severe, but it was still sore. I actually didn't think the bullet was still in there, but it was stupid to think that. How the Hell would the bullet get out? But then again, who out the cloth around my arm? I looked around, Katie was still asleep along with Keith and Darren, surrounding me. We had slept in a pile, sharing warmth away from the "others". They still didn't wanna interact, and they were even for more ill-tempered after the first trial. Keith had wrappings along with Katie, all where their wounds were. I looked around the room, and so did everyone else who had gotten injured. The door to our escape swung open, and I looked at it in surprise, watching as our captivator came in, watching with my bleary eyes. He looked at me and smiled.
"Ah, the others are still asleep I see. They need their rest, after their first trial." He said, then there was a long pause of deafening silence.
"I see you're curious about the wrappings. While everyone was asleep I did a little surgery. Your wounds should heal fine, don't want you piggies to die of infection first." He said laughing, and I tried to force a smile but it came crooked. I was disgusted. It's lucky he was talking to me, and not any of the other prisioners. They would've probably yelled at him, making him angry. They're stupid enough to activate his wrath, despite my group.
"You know, I'm not surprised you're alive." He said, in a nostalgic tone. His eyes were wistful. What the actual fuck?
"Why do you say that?" I asked him, why hadn't he left already?
"You're the special one. The promising one." He seemed he wanted to say more, but he was interrupted as Kate stirred.
"Tell the others not to mess with their bandages. If they do, I'll kill them and whoever they hold close. And trust me I know." He said chuckling and left the room, hearing the slam of the metal door where he operated on his trials. The noise seemed to of woke Katie, because as soon as it slammed she sat straight up. Her foot hit mine, and she winced.
"I expected that to hurt more." She said in a drowsy tone, then she noticed the wrappings.
"Our captivator took the bullet out and is treating any infection. He doesn't want us to die outside of trials."
"Oh," she breathed. "makes sense." She leaned on me, and then looked up at me. I saw something in her eyes, then it faded.
"Hey, Katlyn?'' She began and I responded with a nod.
"Nevermind." She said giggling softly, though her eyes looked sad. I know not to push, but to just wait until she tells me. One time when we were kids, she had a secret and wouldn't tell me. I kept bothering her about it and she eventually exploded. It was that she had a crush on me, and at the time I didn't think anything of it. But now, I wouldn't just ignore it. I don't care if it's a phase or not, being I think I'm lesbian or at least bisexual, but I feel something for Katie. But I know she's straight, always looking at guys. I'm just gonna push it away, and concentrate on Darren. I feel something growing for him to, though I'm not sure. I'm more attracted to Keith. Slowly, everyone began to awaken. Everything was insolent silence and it was tense, mainly coming off from all the loners. Don't get me wrong, they're causing the problems. Those five are just sitting, staring. It's like they're upset with us. One girl began to sneer, and she twitched a bit while looking at me.
"Hey, is there a problem?'' I began, and looked at me with a shocked expression.
"Problem? Oh, I don't know. It's not like we're being held captive by some fucking psychopath!" She yelled, raising her voice as she progressed through her reply.
"Oh? And that's my fault?" I said rolling my eyes, the Hell was wrong with her? Yeah, we're in a terrible situation but you don't see me crying my eyes out.
"Don't act stupid. I overheard you having your little chats with that psychopath!"
"It's not like we're fucking buddies! What was I supposed to do? Yell? Yeah, that's a good idea make him fucking angry. Oh, what about ignoring him? That's a genius idea, who the Hell knows what he'll do to "grab" my attention!" I yelled even louder, what was her issue? She made a low rumbling sound in her throat, and she lunged at me. She had a wound in her foot so I stomped on that foor and punched her with my good arm, it made her squeal and she fell on the floor in pain. I shot my left arm, because I use my right arm best. Her attack was futile, I didn't even need to dodge. She left herself vulnerable.
"Hey, who the Hell do you think you are?" A boy stood up, walking towards me. He was limping by the looks of it, probably having a gunshot wound to his leg.
"She was defending herself." Darren stood up walked in front of me, inches away from the other guy.
"Defending? The fuck is wrong with you? What she did was totally unnecessary!" He started raising his voice, and the other loners began to creep as close as their chains would allow to us. The chains were long enough so we could all reach each other, but not long enough so we could reach the door. Every loner seemed to be mad at me, like all of them knew each other. Like they had their own group, including all five of them. There were nine left, and four of us, including myself, knew who our friends were. That left those five, including the bitch and guy standing up for her.
"She fucking invoked it. Katlyn didn't do anything wrong." Darren raised his voice louder than the other guy's voice, but he wasn't exactly yelling. It seemed those two were about to break into a fist fight, and that the other three loners would to. The bitch was still whining on the floor. Katie and Keith seemed to have my full support, ready to fight if needed. The other guy was about to throw a punch when our captivator barged in the room.
"What are you fucking doing!?" He yelled and walked over to the guy and threw him on the ground.
"Argue all you want, but if you fucking hurt each other you're all fucking dead!" He sneered, his voice sounding malicious. He left the room, slamming door, and then we heard the slam of the metal door. The other five huddled and began whispering, sometimes even glancing. Like they were gossping.
"I didn't hear the metal door over the yelling." Keith whispered to me, it was barely audible. Katie and Darren were whispering harshly to each other, probably pissed onto what happened. I looked at Keith, his eyes looked sincere.
"Don't worry, it's not like any of us got hurt, despite the other five." I said and kissed him. No one seemed to notice, and every day I was growing more connected to Keith. He seemed to feel the same way, being he smiled. I had to push my feelings for Katie away, we were just sisters. Besides, me being attracted to girls was probably just a phase. After Katie and Darren finished ranting each other, they scooted next to me and Keith. We were just getting to know each other before Katie and Darren came.
"Hey, thanks for standing up for me, Darren." I said and he smiled at me.
"No problem, we should all stick close." He said and we all agreed inside. The rest of the night, we relaxed and just got to know each other. We would rather be with each other than mourn onto what was ahead. Don't get me wrong, we all missed our families and felt depressed. But we pushed it away for the sake of each other, and even though we had happy conversations, they were always tinged with a melancholic mood
Relentless
