I was sitting on my couch, watching TV, when the doorbell rang. I got up and looked out the window, and saw Katie standing at the door. Finally! It was December 30th. I got up quickly, and ran to the door. She was late, I was already dressed and ready to go. I unlocked and opened the door, and Katie gave me a big hug.
"Hey!" She squealed.
"Hey, ready to go?" I asked her when I heard my mom walking towards the door.
"Go where?" She questioned, even though she knew for a fact where.
"We're going to the mall first, then to Katie's." I explained to her.
"Alright, stay safe and call me when you get to the mall." She said as we walked out and shut the door behind us. No need to say goodbye, we'd see each other again.
"Are we walking or driving?" I asked her as I saw that there was no car parked anywhere.
"Walking, obviously." She said chuckling and I rolled my eyes and shoved her softly. The mall wasn't that far from our house, a few blocks maybe. After a block or so, I groaned.
"Hey, don't be lazy." She said laughing and I groaned again.
"Why not? We'll have plenty of time walking around the mall."
"It's exercise. Maybe you need to lose some weight!" She said in a giddy tone and poked my stomach, I covered it self consciously and glared at her playfully. I wasn't fat or anything, but I wasn't an athlete either. Katie was the athlete, and she's pretty good at sports. She has a lily body but we're about the same size. It's funny, actually. She's skinny but she has the biggest breasts I've ever se-. I'm just gonna stop there. I shouldn't be thinking about her that way! She noticed I didn't reply and poked my side.
"You okay?" She asked in a worried tone, she knew I was self conscious.
"Huh? Yeah. I was just thinking about something." I told her honestly. She's a trust worthy person but... I don't know if I can tell her the way I feel. I don't know if it's a phase or hormones or whatever's possible. I'm just afraid of rejection. I always have.
"What's on your mind?" She questioned as we walked down the street, we weren't far from the mall.
"I'm just pondering." I answered her, which was also truthful. I was considering the choice of telling her, but I don't know. I'm worried. It looked like she was about to ask another question, but she hadn't. She flicked me in the arm after a moment of silence.
"Hey, there's the mall!" She squealed and I looked at the large, endless building and groaned. If you haven't noticed, she's the energetic and happy type while I'm the lazy and serious type.
"Why'd you groan?" She asked me, looking at me again. She seemed serious, like she was worried I groaned because I was unhappy.
"You know how I am with walking." I said smiling at her and she smiled back. Throughout the day we went to a variety of shops, just window shopping. I liked to window shop so I could see what I wanted to get in the future and I could see what Katie liked. It was fun, and we joked around a lot, but I couldn't help feeling those eyes bore into me. Like I was being watched. This feeling was subconscious, and I assumed I was paranoid. I didn't ask why I was paranoid, though. So I never came to the conclusion of Katie's pranks. Or assumed to be pranks. After window shopping for a bit, which was hours, we stopped in the middle of the central area of the mall. It was so big, and filled with so many people. I felt like I was being followed, but I pushed the feeling aside. It's a mall full of people, what's gonna happen?
"I just texted my mom. She said she'll be here to pick us up in the parking lot. I have to go to the bathroom, though, so just wait out there. Okay?" Katie explained to me and I said okay and we headed in opposite directions. This mall was huge. It was so big it didn't have a regular parking lot, more of a series of parking lots. You know, one of those parking lots where they have levels? That's basically how this parking lot is set up. The mall had a lot of different levels, some even being beneath the ground. Since we were on the lowest level, Katie's mom would pick us up on the lowest level. I went into the parking lot area and waited. It was full of cars, yet there was no one walking. Everyone must be inside the mall. People usually came early so it was always deserted when Katie and I were picked up. I was standing on the sidewalk of the parking lot area that was connected to the mall, looking over my text history. As I was looking over it, someone rudely shoved past me and it sent my phone flying down a set of stairs. I had never really been down the set of stairs, but I assumed there was just a vending machine and a janitorial closet down there, since we were in the parking lot area.
"What the Hell was that for?" I said grumbling as the person walked away. I walked down the stairs to pick up my phone when I felt someone cover my mouth. Their hands were meaty and raw, and he had a deep, scarred voice.
"You're a special one." He said, his tone raspy. I panicked. I didn't know what to do. I tried to scream, but before I could, I felt something heavy hit my head. I blacked out instantly.
~~~~~
I woke up to loud music, but dim lighting. I was confused to where I was at first, then noticed the throbbing pain in my head and I remembered. I felt panic rise in me, what did he want? What would he do? Would I live? My mind began to bombard myself with unanswerable questions, then I calmed myself. Relax, Katlyn. Panicking won't help you survive. I surveyed my surroundings. I could hear the loud country music along with the roar of tires, just one set though. I lifted by head a bit, but banged it on something hard. I rubbed my fingers against what I hit my head on; metal. I was in a fucking trunk. My eyes adjusted to the dim lighting and I noticed light was coming out of the areas of where the trunk should have firmly been shut over. Along with that, I could see the headlights and where to kick them. I seemed to be on a highway, but one of those highways where there's only one car and you rarely pass someone. It was still worth a try, though. If you didn't know, whenever you're in a trunk of a car, always kick out the headlights. The police always stop a car if one of their headlights aren't working and check the trunk of the car. The music was extremely loud, probably so any noise I made couldn't be heard. It was to my perusers advantage, but also to my advantage. With the noise blaring, I could kick out the headlights and hope that he didn't hear. Then, all I had to do was hope and wait a cop would see and stop him then find me. I rammed my foot against the headlights, trying to knock them out. I kept kicking and kicking until it gave way, sending the headlight flying across the street behind the moving car. The driver didn't seem to notice, and when I looked out of the little hole I had made, I didn't see any other car. We were driving in a long black road, desert sands to the side of us. It seemed like hours until I saw the first car, specifically a police car. I stuck my arm outside the hole and waved, hoping the cop would see. There was only one cop in the car and he pulled over whoever was driving this car. I remained silent, I didn't wanna give my kidnapper any knowledge that I was awake. All was silent except for the police officer and my kidnapper talking.
"Any trouble, officer?" The man with a deep menacing voice asked, shutting the car door behind him as he got out of his car. The police also got out of his car and began to speak.
"I just wanted to check your trunk. Your headlights in the back seem to be broken." There was a pause. Then my kidnapper spoke again.
"Sure thing. Just come around back here." The kidnapper said and I could literally hear their footsteps as they walked towards me. I held my breath in anxiety and anticipation, then the trunk popped. I saw my kidnapper more clearly, bald, tall. His menacing blue eyes pierced me and before the cop could react my kidnapper spun around and stabbed the officer in the stomach with a sharp knife he had kept in his pocket. I took this opportunity and got out of the trunk and bolted away from the scene. I heard him yell something and I knew he'd be after me. I was running, the adrenaline rushing through me and my panicky legs making me move faster. I didn't get far, though, because he had grabbed me. Tightly. He squeezed my sides hard and he began to carry me, making sure I could do nothing to him. I thought he was going to kill me right then and there, but he didn't. It was like he read my mind.
"However much trouble you are, I can't hurt you. You have a greater death waiting, if it's your time." He said in a cold voice and I shivered. What did this bastard want? I was silent the whole way, though, I was terrified. I knew I could scream and yell, but what would he do to me? He threw me back in the trunk and shut it. I smelled death, and I noticed he had also out the dead police officer body in here to. The car and music started up again, and he drove off. I curled away from the dead body, wanting to be as far away from it as possible. I was shivering in fear, and I laid my head down on a pile of clothes in the car. I just wanted to sleep right now, not deal with this.
