True story. It happened over the summer.
There was only one thing Tina loved as much as her friends and theatre. Baseball. She had been playing since she was 6. She was a pitcher and center field through and through, because of her being pitcher, she always batted last. Her batting skills weren't the best and she was not the fastest runner so it was good she didn't hold up the game. She knew the most important batter was slot 4. They had to be fast, and great cause they were usually the ones who determined if the team won or lost. Benny Seahs was this person but unfortunately, he wouldn't be for very long.
It was the day of the big game and the team including Tina, Mason, and Bryan were all practicing before.
There were 9 people in team.
Tina- Pitcher
Mason- Catcher
Bryan- Shortstop
Tommy Delmark- 1st Base
Allan Max- 2nd Base
Phillip Denning- 3rd Base
Scott Squills- Left Field
Sam Rodriguez- Right Field
Benny Seahs- Center Field/4th batter/ most important player
During the break, the kids went to wag a snack.
" You okay Benny?",Sam asked. " You're looking a little green."
"Naw. I'm fine.",He said gruffly.
" You sure?",Scott asked." The last thing we need is for you bailing on us dude."
" Will you shut it Scott?",Benny said, icily. " You skipped a game to go to Disneyland once."
Scott tried fighting back. " Well sure... but you you..."
" Was at the game. Wasn't I?",Benny inquired. " And i'll be at this one.",He got up and walked away.
" And I thought Tee was the only girl on the team.",Tommy said. ( This guy literally always says this)
The coach blew his whistle. " Boys!",he said. " And..... Girl.", He said eyeing Tina. " We're gonna play half a game."
" Coach Mike?",Benny said, raising his hand. " Can I get a sip of water?"
" Sorry Seahs.",Coach Mike said, shaking his head. " Places Players."
The kids got in their position. The game went on for a while. Finally when it was benny's turn, things went wrong.
" You ready Benny?",Tina called, as she was about to throw the ball.
He rubbed his head. " Mhm.. I'm ready."
Tina pitched 2 and Benny missed it. Everyone was confused.
" Get your head in the game Man!",Mason said.
Benny hit the ball. He got as far as 1st base and stopped cold.
Tommy was right infront of him. " Go Man Go!!!"
Benny suddenly bolted towards the trash cans.
" Benny Man!",Bryan called. " Where you going?"
" I think he's hurling.",Allan said, frankly.
Benny walked back to 1st based. " Hey Tommy..",He said quietly.
" Whatcha need Ben?",He asked.
" Trust fall.",He said horselly as he collapsed in Tommy's arms. The whole team immediately ran over and it was chaos.
" Oh man. We're in deep shit.",Tommy said.
" Come on Benny! Wake up!" ,Phillip yelled.
" Don't do this to us!" ,Mason urged.
" Yeah yeah man. " ,Tina said. " He looks pretty crappy."
" Wake up Now." ,Scott and Sam said kicking him.
Coach Mike ran up, threw Benny over his shoulder and ran towards the gym. " 5 minutes break y'all!"
No one said anything during the break. They just slowly walked toward their positions and say down quietly.
Coach Mike came and bared bad news. " Umm. Fellas! Seahs has the stomach flu and the game starts in an hour and there's only one person here who can play his position as well as their own."
" I wonder whose the poor slop that has to live up to Benny." ,Bryan whispered to Tina.
" Alvarez!" Coach Mike said, pointing towards Tina. " You're taking the spot for now."
" What!!!" ,She said surprised.
" No time to argue. Get ready!"
The players got in their positions as the other team hopped out of the bus.
The game went on normally until the 4th batter was up.Then the worse ever announcement came on.
" Ladies and Gentleman. ",The speaker roared. " Due to a heat warning, this will be the last pitch of the day. If the 4th batter makes it, their team wins."
Tina was frozen at the bat. Luckily Mason, Bryan, and Tommy were there for words of encouragement.
" Look Dude." ,Tommy said. " Benny's my best friend and if anyone can fill his shoes, it's you."
" Yeah. All you have to do is make it to 2nd base anyway." ,Mason said.
" Good luck!" ,Bryan said, as the boys ran to their spots.
" You just gotta make it to me Tee!" ,Allan said.
A guy from another school pitched the ball. Tina struck out. He pitched again. Tina struck out.
" Come on Tee." ,Phillip begged.
The ball came toward her again. Tina took a deep breath and swung the bat. She heard a loud crack and saw the call flying. And then
She ran.
She ran past Tommy. She ran past Allan. She ran passes Phillip. The guys stood there opened mouth because Tina alvarez had done something only Benny could do. Tina alvarez, the only girl in the team, had made a home run.
" We won!!" ,Scotty yelled at the top of his lungs.
The team high fived Tina and went out for ice cream.
A week later, Benny wanted to hear the story. " Wait I actually passed out?"
" In my Tommy's arms!" ,Scotty laughed. " You were pretty out of it."
" I can't believe you hit a homerun Tee." Benny told her.
" I wouldn't have believed if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes." ,Allan said.
Coach Mike came over. " Uh Kids!" He said sadly. " Tommy has come down with a bad case of the stomach flu. We need to replace him for the benefit tomorrow. So Sam you're up."
" Me!!" I can't catch!" Sam complained.
" No time for complaining." Coach Mike said.
" We have got to get substitute players." Benny said quietly.
This was all true. Even the ending. I also used all the players real names( except for mason and bryan) with permission.
i'm surprised Phillip let me write this because when this even happened he told me" You Better not put this crap on wattpad jaz!" 😂
