My family in Tomodari thinks I'm dead.
After the explosion in the library, they found no survivors, only the bones of those who burned to death.
They didn't find my skeleton, though. No. I'm fireproof, the only one that can bend fire to their will. I could destroy anything and claim anything I want.
However, I don't let my ambitions get the best of me. I only do what is necessary for my Thorns to survive and keep our island, Kemettri, under our control.
However, this is not some stupid story of me becoming queen of Kemettri.
No.
This is the story of how I, the Soul Finder, became the ruler of my birthplace, Tomodari.
--------------------------
I look out at the water boredly, my feet dipped in it's frigid liquid. Light bounced off of it's surface, creating patterns that no artist could create. The wood bridge underneath me creaked as someone walked behind me, putting their hands over my eyes.
"Guess who," The familiar voice said. It was smooth and femine, and I grinned impishly.
"I don't know..." I said. "Is it.... GEMMA?" I said, grabbing Gemma's hands and launching her into the water, laughing as she splashed me.
"No fair!" She said, her dark curly locks now wet and pressed against her face. Her green eyes seemed to laugh as Gemma climbed out of the water and opened her arms. "Now you get a hug!"
"Nooo!" I laughed, scrambling to my feet and running away. I was too old to be playing like this with Gemma, and what made it worse is that I'm the leader of the Poisin Thorns, the rulers of Kemettri.
Gemma caught up with me and crushed me in a bear hug, soaking me. Water dripped from her face into mine as I giggled.
"Got ya!" Gemma said, putting me down and rubbing my head. I looked up at her smiling face, remembering how we used to play together when we were kids. Back then, we were the same height, but now, she was taller than me.
"Gemma," I complained, tugging at my now soaked shirt. "Look at what you did! Now I'll have to go change." I cursed in spanish under my breath, the joy of messing with Gemma now gone. Gemma frowned and crossed her arms.
"You're no fun anymore," she whined. "Why can't things just go back to the way they used to be?" I glared at her pointedly.
"Because now I have to look after Kemettri and the Posin Thorns." My voice had much more venom in it than I had originally meant for it to have, but it was all for the better. Gemma knew that I had responsibilities, but she wanted me to ignore them so that I could mess with her. "Maybe if you'd stop messing around and become something more important than the loon of Kemettri, you'd understand why I can't mess around!"
Gemma stared at me, surprised by my sudden outburst of anger. I stared back at her, narrowing my eyes.
"I think this whole leader thing is bull," Gemma says. "And me being Kemettri's loon? Blah!" She turns her back on me and holds her head high. I roll my eyes, but I am sorry for my outburst.
"I'm sorry, Gemma," I say, running a hand through my long brown hair. "Everything's just been really stressful ever since Terrin left."
Terrin, my right hand man, had left Kemettri to find a better life. He left the Thorns, using only his ability to control people and animals like puppets to guide himself to Barrak, the Land of Wind.
Let me explain something. Every land stands for something. Barrak, as you know, is the Land of Wind. Kemettri is the Land of Fire, Ewein is the Land of Water and Tomodari is the Land of Hate.
