Being legally blind isn't easy. I'm often teased and harassed when I bump into things or people, and I've been hit by people that I can't see. I always feel like I'm alone with no one to talk to, but then I go home and my cat Peanut Butter jumps on my stomach and I tell him about my day. I wasn't always blind, though. I could see when I was really young, but my vision got worse until I couldn't see anything.

I was laying down as I said, Peanut Butter on my stomach. I raised my hand to my face, searching for my sunglasses, which protected my eyes from further damage and dizziness. I heard the front door open and my roommates enter the apartment, chatting away about their latest class. I scowled bitterly. I had to go to a different college just because I was blind. If someone would just read the problems to me and write it down, I'd be just fine! I could ace all of my classes!

I shook my head, not wanting the bitterness to catch up with me. I sighed and pushed Peanut Butter off of my lap and reached for my stick, which was lying beside me on my bed. I tapped it on the ground, following the sounds of my roommates voices. Their voices were more urgent now and slightly worried. Maybe it was because I hadn't answered any of their calls(I know how to use the home phone).

"Hello?" I said as I entered the kitchen, their voices now quiet.

"Emi," Said the voice that I recognized as Tori's. "We found something that can heal your eyes." I snorted and started to move around the room, looking for Bella.

"We're serious!" Lexi said, grabbing my hand and guiding me to Bella. "But we need you to trust us. We're going to go into a forest, and you might trip some, but the thing promised to wait for us there."

I wrapped my arms around Bella and stood there for a moment. "You mean to tell me you don't know what it is?" I said, pursing my lips.

I heard someone open a bag of chips. "Not exactly," Lexi said. "It looked like some creature from Japanese mythology, and it told us that it knew one of our friends was blind and that they could help you."

I bit my lip and turned to Bella. "Do you think it'll work?" I whispered. Bella squeezed me tighter.

"Yeah, I think so.." she said, laughing nervously.

I turned to where the crunching was coming from. "You'd better not be lying," I warned, escaping Bella's grasp. "So are we going or what?"

"Uh, Emi, we thought we'd sleep first and then find the creature again," Tori explained.

I felt myself blush. "Uh, yeah!" I said. "That makes more sense." I turned around and began heading towards my bedroom, where I would grab some clothes and take a shower. Someone would be sitting in the bathroom to make sure I didn't fall and gouge an eye out while I showered. It was better to be safe than sorry.

As I went back towards the bathroom, I felt Tori's hand on my shoulder. "I know you want to go, but you'll just have to wait, okay? You need your rest. It's going to be a long hike," She said as she led me into the bathroom. I heard her turn around, giving me a little privacy. I pulled my clothes off and felt my way towards the tub, where I felt for the small braille bumps that Lexi had installed for me so I would know which way to turn the knob. I turned the shower on and got inside, pulling the curtain across.

"Hey, Tori," I said. "Where's the shampoo?" I remembered that I had my sunglasses on and tossed them to where I hope Tori was.

"It's on the right end of the tub," She replied. She was probably on her phone texting her boyfriend or one of her college friends and complaining that she had to sit in here while she could be in the kitchen eating. I shook my head.
