Lol I had to bring the story in a loop. I had to. Reminds me of The Lions of Little Rock, if anyone's ever read that story. ~Maddie
.......... Newt's Point of View ..........
I anxiously waited at the top of the stairs. It was now spring, and we were holding yet another ball; the first one since the Christmas Ball a couple months ago. I watched as people were filing inside the room, and each one had a 'date' as I suppose you could call it. Well, except the girls that had come only for Theseus, but that was out of the question.
As the wave of people had started to decrease in pairs, with a couple clusters of people coming in at a time, I almost felt my heart sink. But some crazy thing, really crazy thing, was keeping my spirits up.
Was this love?
Ever since the night of the Christmas Ball, I have always had a fluttery feeling in my chest. Perhaps it was from thinking of her way more often than not, maybe. Or maybe it was from... I felt my face heat up slightly at the thought. I've always thought about how it would feel if I could just... maybe... kiss her again...
My face was literally going to explode from the amount of blood rushing to my face, so I shook the thoughts from my head and focused my attention back on the doors where barely any ladies and gentlemen were coming out from.
Even when the guards closed the doors, signalling they couldn't see anymore people coming, I still had hope. Ridiculous, it might sound to another person that hadn't ever spoken to me before.
Maybe she's just lost in the castle? If she is, should I go find her? I know she's here; she said we'd see each other again. Maybe she'll be late like she was at the last ball. Maybe she's a bit bad at keeping track of time, I thought with a fondness I've never seemed to have before; it's as if I'm a new person now, even if I still have to work on a list of things... Including my self esteem and confidence, but I will have to get to that later.
Maybe she could help me..., with that final thought, I felt my heart seem to grow three times its size. I probably look extremely foolish right now; smiling stupidly at absolutely nothing. But then again, it's not really nothing at all, more like everything.
"Prince Theseus and Prince Newton!" the announcer said, and I rushed to get into my spot as I slowly walked down the stairs with my brother on my right. My thoughts and imagination were racing wonderfully; it made adrenaline run through my veins with each little thought. I never thought I would ever get to this point were I could ever, ever, EVER become this exhilarated from just one person.
Even if I could feel all of the disapproving stares, I didn't care. I knew she was here, somewhere, and that was all that mattered to me. I could look past the disappointment, and I could prove to them that I can be acceptable. I could prove that they could actually want me as another prince, just like some of them. I could be their equal.
"Now, the traditional rose throwing!" the announcer said. This was going rather quickly, actually. It could possibly be that one saying: time flies when you're having fun. Of course, if that makes any sense...
The servants went over to me and my brother, delicately holding two blue (I honestly have no clue why they switched it to blue this year; that colour would've been more suited from the last ball, considering it was winter) cushions and on each a full, red rose. Now that I thought about it, I'm pretty sure that those came from the royal garden... Maybe I could pick one and give it to her? I'm sure that would be an overused move, but I still think it's the thought that counts. Wait! I've become inspired. Maybe I could give her that bouquet of red roses I've saved from the other balls? That could be wonderful! I know it was originally a sign of all the failed balls I've had, but I want to make it into a better memory, one that isn't so down-putting.
Through all of my 'brainstorming', I had barely noticed Theseus gently pick up the rose on the cushion in front of him and throw it out into the crowd. A swarm of people tried their best to catch it, and this time a petite red haired girl had caught it, and Theseus sauntered over to her. No change in that.
But, of course, all happy thoughts eventually have to come to an end at some point. As I picked up the little rose, I felt the doubt begin to rise in my chest. I felt as if the stares I've been receiving were slowly tearing their way down into my soul, and seeing how much of an unhappy place it is in there, and instantly directing their attention somewhere else.
You never saw her come into the room, much less the building for that matter. You're rose will fall to the ground with no one to catch it, much like your fanciful thoughts just now. You don't know where she is, and that probably means she thought it over and she has decided to never look at your face again.
I darted my eyes over the crowd, and sure enough, I did not see any figure that even looked remotely like (y/n). Maybe I was just focusing on the outfits...?
For the last time, I decided to once again throw caution to the wind, and everything seemed to go into slow motion from then on. I threw the rose into the middle of the crowd like I had done last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that...
But then I saw a girl with (h/l), (h/c) hair with a beautiful dress on step forward from her hidden spot in the mass of people, gracefully snatching the rose from the air and bringing it down to absentmindedly stroke the soft petals. My heart lurched and my doubts faded away, tears nearly falling from my eyes as I realized that (y/n) was here, and she just hiding from me all along. As she walked towards me, I tried to meet her in the middle, but it felt as if my feet were glued to their spot.
As I'd said, I'd often fantasized about seeing her again, but now that I actually see her I realise that imagination will never be as good as the real thing. She smiles gently at me, and without thinking I gather her up into a much needed hug. I was almost going to cry at this point, but not wanting to ruin her dress I held it back. I felt her fingers running through my hair and stroking the nape of my neck.
Once I had decided to finally pull back from the embrace, she bowed teasingly, just like last time, and asked, "Will you dance with me, Newt?"
(A/N) - Wow I finally finished idk why that took so long but it did... Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this book! I have two other books that are part of a series; it's Harry Potter x Reader called More Than Best Friends, and I'm currently working on the second book if you want to read them! There will be seven of them, just to say. Again, tell me if you enjoyed this story and I hope you all have a lovely day! ~Maddie
