The heat had become almost unbearable, the humidity was like nothing Burt had ever encountered, and to make things worse, he'd run out of snacks. Yet still, like the brave unstoppable explorers of old, he found strength to push on.
He had started to think that maybe the earth was a lot bigger than he first thought, all he had seen since leaving the safety of the garden was short cut grass, grass that had been looked after, each blade a perfect colour, a correct and exact length. And, for a good hour or so, had felt like something had been watching him.
"Excuse me" a bellowing, yet well to do voice said from behind him.
The sound of the words shook Burt to his core; his core was also slimy and jelly like, so he was perfectly fine.
"Are you going somewhere, old chap?"
Burt turned, it took him a while, and gazed upon what he could only describe as a huge hairy giant.
"I said... Are lost old chap?"
Burt gulped, "Are you going to eat me?"
"Eat you?! Of course not... How dare you!"
"Sorry" Burt said, "my name's Burt."
The giant flicked it's tail and brought its head down to Burt's level, "My name is Montgomery Cheeseboard, and I'm an award winning race horse."
"A race horse!" Burt said excitedly. "Wow, I've never met a race horse!"
"Well, you have now" Montgomery Cheeseboard replied.
Montgomery Cheeseboard was a brilliant race horse, possibly the best there was. He was, at this very moment, in the middle of a huge race, and after throwing his jockey off had gotten so far ahead he felt like he could afford a little wonder. Burt had gone a little crazy and told Montgomery Cheeseboard how he was his biggest fan, and, being the super cool posh race horse he was, Montgomery Cheeseboard had asked Burt if he'd like a little ride.
Susan sat at home, and though she had a lot of eyes she couldn't believe any one of them.
The Grand National was on and everyone was watching, and though very unbelievable, Susan saw Burt riding a horse with a monocle crossing the finishing line in a dazzling photo finish.
It was a moment Burt would never forget.
