Little did Burt know how truly far away from home he was, the current had gone from fast to slow, to casual, to Deliverance, and now unfortunately back to fasts again. Once he'd left the deep southern frogs behind, ahead lay utterly unknown territory.
The small stream met up with a vast, wide water way - a canal - Burt had never seen such creatures. He'd lived all his life among other bugs, Beatles and insects a like, but here, here there were creatures that science had never predicted.
The small raft wobbed slightly as a colossal thing came floating passed, it's neck towwred high above him, it's body a balloon of white, deep cushioninesss, and like Burt's favourite story - Journey to the Centre of the Earth - this duck was as close to a Plesiosaur as he would ever get.
"Quack quack!" Burt shouted in excitement.
The duck, who's name was Carl, not that it mattered, flapped it's wings with the might of a small, tasey bird; Carl had recently been having a bit of a confidence crisis, the other ducks laughed at him for silly reasons, but now, here, on this fateful canal stretch, Burt had given this down and out duck a boost that would set him up for days.
A rushing sound filled the air, a head the canal changed, it ran into drainage pipes that seeped underground out of site, out of the way of the huge jungle like city that rose to the sky line. Burt gasped, his tiny heart went into over drive.
He felt that not only had he travelled through distance, but also through time itself. The future stood ahead, great blades of grass that shimmered in the sun light.
Whatever came next, Burt knew that Susan would definitely kill him if he ever returned home without a gift. It didn't matter what sort of adventure he'd had, "you didn't even get me some smelly stuff!" Burt heard her say.
Burt pulled a leaf from the water, fashioned it to a small stick and met the breeze with gusto.
"To the beyond, beyond the beyond!"
He'd have to work on that...The End.
