Still Nat's POV

___________________

The early morning sunlight streamed in through my window, and I unwillingly stretched and opened my lazy eyes. Filled with fatigue, I reached over to my bedside table to see if Liv was coming to the mall with me today or not, but looking at my phone, she hadn't actually replied to message.  I frowned- she always replied to my messages. Dismissing the thought, I slowly got out of my warm bed and trudged downstairs to the kitchen. Pulling open the doors to all the cabinets, I spotted some waffles and flung two into the toaster. I wonder if Liv is okay? Why wouldn't she reply? Maybe her phone just ran out of charge! I'll text her again, maybe she just didnt hear the message:

Hey Liv! Are you okay sweetheart? Haven't heard from you since last night:) Text me when you get this:) I love you lots xx

Pressing send, I grabbed the golden syrup from the cupboard and squirted it all over my waffles, stuffing them into my mouth as quickly as I could. I was contemplating getting another one, when the doorbell rang. I was only in pants and a top, but answered it anyway, hoping it was Liv.

"Hello, Mr Nathaniel Way?" A strange woman asked.

"Um, yes" I said awkwardly, remembering I was not actually dressed," that's me! What do you want?"

"Well we have a patient, Olivia Freme, In hospital and her mother asked me to come and fetch you so you could see her."

What!? Liv was in hospital?

"Oh lord what happened?" I asked, worry lacing my voice, and my face moulded into a picture of sadness and despair.

"She fell down the stairs after passing out, she is recovering well, but has badly bruised her head."

"Ill be right with you, let me just get dressed." I shouted,  sprinting up the stairs. I hurriedly pulled on a beatles top, red hoodie, and sweat pants, then running back downstairs where the woman was still waiting at the door. After grabbing my phone from the counter and lacing up my shoes, I followed her out to the car parked at the end of my drive. Climbing in silently, I sat and fiddled with my thumbs as she started the engine.

The journey was spent pretty much in silence, and I just sat there and thought about how much I wanted to see Liv, see her smile her cute little smile and tell me she was going to be okay. But I knew that wasn't going to happen.  I tried to mentally prepare myself for what she was going to look like, but I really had no idea. Was she cut at all? Or was it just bruises? I'm surprised she didn't break a bone, but I'm so glad she didn't.  I know the woman said she had some bruising to the head. What if she thinks I won't love her anymore because of what she looks like?

"We're here" The woman said quietly, getting out the car as I did the same.

We walked slowly up to the entrance of the hospital, wanting to delay the time until I had to see Liv in pain. But, we got there eventually, and the woman lead me through various corridors and rooms, until we came to a quiet waiting room where Liv's mother was sat.

"Nat!" She sobbed, running over to give me a hug. I steadied her on her feet and she released me, telling me to sit down.

"I haven't been in yet so I don't know how she is doing, I wanted you to be the first one to see her." She told me.

"Are you sure, Mrs Freme?" I replied nervously.

"Yes, and please, call me Jane."

I stood up and the strange woman lead me over to a door with Liv's name on it. Leaving me then, I pushed open the door to reveal Liv laid in bed, dressed in a hospital gown, and with cuts and bruises covering her skin. I gasped and held back a loud sob, before slowly walking over to her and sitting in the chair next to her bed. Taking hold of her hand in mine, her delicate eyes fluttered open, turning to look at me.

"Liv, baby, it's me, Nat. Are you okay sweetheart?" I whispered sadly. Something was wrong, her face was a picture of confusion and worry.

"Sorry, who are you?" She asked me seriously.

Dread filled my mind, running over all the possibilities of what could be happening.  "It's me," I said, " Nat, your boyfriend.  We were together just last night." I replied calmly, yet what she said next replaced all my calm with confusion, and I wanted to scream out loud, or just sit there and cry.

"No, I don't know who you are."
