Jilly

"What do you think of Calum, Jilly?" Kate asked me, looking at dresses in her closet   "He seems so sweet.  Ashton and Michael are so nice, but I wish I got to talk to Calum more."

"Ash and Mikey are literally obsessed with you, Kate," I said with a laugh.  "It's cool how we can be normal with them, how they can be normal with us.  It's just like hanging out with your brothers."

Kate held up a pretty blue dress up against herself.  She nodded as she admired herself in the mirror.  "We're going to be true seniors in a couple weeks, you know."

"Yeah, I didn't really want to think about that," I said, throwing myself onto Kate's bed.  "I know Luke and the boys will be leaving around the time that we start school."

"I can't wait to get out of that hell hole.  Then I can go to college in London," said Kate.  She held up a lavender dress.  "Does this look London-y to you?  I'm still debating on whether I want new clothes or not."

"You'll look great in it, Kate.  You look great in everything," I said, chuckling a little.  Kate was such a girly-girl; she was so good at being a girl.  I wasn't; if my hair wasn't so long, people probably would have mistaken me for a boy.  I didn't mind though.  We balanced each other out, fashion and personality wise.

"Awe, thanks, Jil."  Kate hung the dress up and threw herself next to me on the bed.  "I can't believe we only have two more weeks with the boys."

"That's what we get for befriending a world-famous band like 5 Seconds of Summer," I said, rolling my head over a little so it rested on her shoulder.  "They travel the world, and we stay here.  They go back home to damn Australia, and we're still here."

"Should we move to Australia after we finish college?"

"I'm going to be a successful lawyer after I finish college.  I'll have my own law firm and everything.  If fate permits, I'll marry Luke, and we'll decide together if we want to move to Australia or stay in the States," I said.

"You're so lucky that you pretty much have your whole life planned out," Kate said.  "Even when we were little, you would make plans for the future -- they were silly plans, like being a princess or developing superpowers or becoming supreme overlord of the world -- and you would be so determined to make sure that those plans came to exist."

"Thank God that they didn't," I said, laughing softly as I remembered with her.  "'Princess Jilly'?  I'd be the worst fucking princess ever.  A superpowered Jilly would mean armageddon and the inevitable destruction of the world.  I don't even want to think about what would happen if I became supreme overlord of the world."

"Luke Hemmings's face would be on everything."

I laughed.  "True, but not just Luke.  I would also include Cal, Ash, and Mikey, too," I said.

"Make sure you don't kill One Direction, please," said Kate.

"I wouldn't dream of it."

Kate flipped herself over so she was lying on her stomach.  She said, "But seriously, Jil.  As we grew up, your dreams grew more and more practical, and I still didn't have any dreams myself.  I don't think I know what I want to do for the rest of my life.  You know that I've wanted to model or act, but I don't think I want to starve myself or go through any of the hardships models or actresses go through."

"You're a smart girl, you'll think of something, Kate.  You're my best friend; you always do," I said.  "If anything, you can just continue your family business--"

"I don't want to be a doctor though," she cut in.  "I mean, with a doctor's salary, I could definitely support the lifestyle that I want, but I don't want to go through four years of college only to go through, like, seven or eight more years of medical school."  Kate sighed.  "Maybe I can just marry Calum and I don't have to work."
