Chapter 42: Encore
Bella POV:
There's nothing I enjoy more than being with Edward and our grandchildren. Edward had Chloë in his lap at the piano, teaching her how to play Renesmee's lullaby. I had Aria in my arms, who was extremely interested in pulling on my hair, and I was watching my sweet little Edward play Animal Crossing on his iPad.
"Nama, do you think Stitch likes being with the other doggies in heaven?"
Oh, boy. Stitch was a very touchy subject for him still. At times, he would cry because he missed his furry friend and it didn't help that Renesmee and Jacob were away. I just wish I could take the pain all away.
"I'm sure he does, kiddo." I bounced the baby in my lap.
"I miss him." he frowned a little.
"Aww sweetie..." I scooped him up with my free arm.
"Mommy says he's in a better place." he leaned his head on my shoulder.
"She's right. Stitch is in a better place." I kissed his hair, "Will baking cookies with me make you feel better? You can have it after dinner if you'd like."
He showed off his dimples and gave me a nod, "Peanut butter ones?"
"Of course." I assured him.
"Okay." and he resumed playing his game.
Even though I could live this eternal life without the terrible stench of brown sugar, I'd inhale that scent forever if it meant to see those sweet little smiles. Chloë has such a nuturing side to her that I never knew she had, whenever her brother made a mess, she was the first one to offer him a napkin and make sure his clothes were clean. She didn't like how sticky the cookie dough got, but she enjoyed being part of the process even more. Aria was happily banging her baby spoon on her high chair though, I couldn't get enough of her crooked smile, my Edward's smile. After the cookies cooled, the kids dug in and enjoyed a nice FaceTime call with Renesmee and Jake. From the looks of it, they were in line for the concert.
"I'm going to play your song." Edward kissed my knuckles, "I think the kids will love it."
"I think so too." I gave his hand a squeeze.
Edward gave me a quick smile and picked up Chloe to sit with him on the piano bench while I grabbed Aria and gave EJ a twirl. As expected, they were thrilled. Edward played a few more songs like Renesmee's lullaby, Chopsticks, and some classics that I had no idea came up with it but I knew it had to be either Bach or Mozart. The little ones danced until they tired themselves out and we happily tucked them into bed before joining our own.
Jacob POV:
Ness looked so damn cute in her black crop top and ripped jeans. Alice would be seething if she saw what she was wearing but she looked amazing to me. She had her curls in a high ponytail and just put on natural looking makeup. She calls it the no makeup makeup which confused me to no end but I could tell the slight difference. Guess that's the point. Brilliana and Jax met up with us a little bit before the concert and we grabbed some coffee. They were just as psyched as we are. I mean, how often does Surf Curse tour?!
One thing is for sure is that I miss my kids. Days without them just felt weird, I couldn't wait to see them tomorrow afternoon. We talked a little over FaceTime while they ate the peanut butter cookies they made with Bella. I bet they're in heaven, Bella and Edward completely spoil these kids rotten with sweets. Ness gave up trying to convince her mom that cupcakes are a dessert and not a snack. A little sugar can't hurt them.
