Sophia's POV:
I sit on a bench in front of a bakery at the edge of a busy street, watching as cars drive by. Different colors swerving here and there. Some drivers I notice hold their phone in one hand while they drive with the other. Risky, but they don't care. Especially this one girl who is literally putting on her makeup while looking up at the mirror above. Can she not wait, like 10 minutes till she is able to stop? People these days. Sheesh.
My mother always taught me to always be alert while driving, and to not only think about my life but of those around me. One simple mistake, and I can crash and hurt so many. That would be a nightmare.
On the other end of the street, I see a woman, with wrangled grey hair and a dirty dress, playing on a small guitar. She swerves a little to the side before gaining her step. When she sees that the lights are red, she crosses the streets but not for long. After a couple seconds they turn green and a car beeps at her, she throws a hand in the air as if to say whatever and keeps walking across in a slow stride. I can see her saying something, but I don't hear her until she gets closer.
"The way is the way. The spirit is the spirit." Then she spins around, laughing to herself, before stopping when she sees me and steadying her gaze. She points towards me. "Young lady, listen to me... Listen... You must be careful. Your future will be ohh so dire. But, you will be the world's saving grace..." Then she pauses and tilts her head slightly "Or will you?" she laughs again.
Who is she? And what is she even saying? Does she know that I'm a seer? I stand up and walk towards her but she huffs it in the other direction, already lost in a tune in her head, while playing the strings of her guitar.
I sit back down. How odd she was.
Then, after another minute or two I hear the ring of the bakery door opening and I see Daniel come out, looking as handsome as ever. He wears a black and white plaid flannel shirt, with dark jeans, and hair swept back. He comes closer and kisses my lips before opening up the bag he has in his hand and taking out a cream filled donut.
"Yumm, thank you love." I say.
"No problem." Then he looks into the distance in the direction the woman went. "I saw that old woman come up to you. What did she want?"
"Oh nothing, she was speaking nonsense."
"Like what?"
"She told me something about my future and how it was going to be bad but that I may save this planet."
"Hmm." He murmurs. "I wonder if she's psychic at all." Then he looks at me and takes my hand, and I stand up. "Come on, let's go to the arena."
We both transport there. My powers are strong, after a month of constant training so I can now transport by myself. I was so ecstatic the first time I did it. We all went out celebrated with a big cookies and cream cake afterwards. Oh god, thinking about it, we act like such kids. Ha.
We land in the middle of the arena. It's expansive. If you walk towards the edges and look down you will see the green and blue land below and sometimes even be able to reach out towards the clouds. It's always moving (the arena) so the location is never fixed.
Next to us, are the glass buildings where the council is at, but I haven't seen them yet. Daniel told me that no one has ever had. They are a group of 4 and they were placed to watch over the evolution of earth and the seers.
Daniel comes closer to me, and takes out a small device that he throws into the air. It transforms the arena into a forest. We're smack dap in the middle of a circular clearing.
"Are you ready?" He asks.
"Yes." I answer as I nod my head. A man comes running towards us with an ax in his hand and I run towards him, then flip and kick his feet under him. He falls, and then I lifts his ax and as he reaches up to get it, I smack his across the belly with it. Then his body fizzles out.
"Good, your form is perfect. You just have to make sure to always be aware of your surroundings, no matter what." I nod my head.
Then a grizzly bear comes at me and a hawk sweeps down. I use the power of the wind to blow the hawk a good distance away while I snap a thick branch off a nearby tree and ram it into the bear's side body while it's in a lifted position, roaring at me. I don't notice the other hawk that comes from behind and right before it crashes into my back, Daniel stops the motions.
"Pay attention!" He yells out from the corner.
"I'm trying to." I huff.
We go through the practices again, and again. Different animals, different locations.
And after 2 hours, we decide to take a break, and sit down on the side. My head lays against his lap while he massages my arm.
"You did amazing." He tells me.
"I still have much to learn though." I say sighing.
"So? Even I do. Everyone is always working on their craft."
Then we hear a loud explosion, coming from under us.
I get up and run towards the edge of the arena and look down as a great wind comes zooming towards our direction on the ground, flattening everything in its sight. A bomb. It goes through towns and streets.
I scream. "No!" Tears begin to run down my cheeks. I look towards Daniel, his face is in full shock. Then another bomb drops down.
So many lives must have been taken. How many, I soon find out.
Half a million. 500,000 individual lives wiped out of existence in seconds, in near Beijing, China. Did humans really let themselves succumb to such a low level?
I sit in front of the 4 council members as they brief me on the situation. They finally let us see them after the bombings. They are at least 8 feet tall, two men, and two woman. All with the same dark red robes on their bodies.
"We are here to order you on a mission. With the earth being in such a disarray, this is our last chance." One of the men says in a loud deep voice.
"What kind of mission?" I ask. He looks towards me, with those dark, midnight eyes.
"There will be a virtual 'game' that we have set up. It will be your team against Ivy and Loraine. You will have to find the three charms of the Three Graces bracelet. This bracelet will grant the winners one wish. If Ivy gets it, she will destroy all of us. If you get it, you can restore peace on this earth." A clock floats in the air, frozen. "The game will last 30 minutes and it will start tomorrow at the crack of dawn."
Then one of the woman comes close to me and Daniel. "To help you, you can find Thalias other seer before tomorrow."
We both say in unison. "Thalia has another seer?!"
"Yes. We can show you their location."
