It had been almost exactly a year since Simon had left Watford, he was very happy with his normal(ish) life. Baz had eventually moved in with Penelope and Simon in their flat, he slept with Simon.

One day as Baz was opening the door to the flat he smelled something sweet and buttery. He opened the door to Simon running back and forth between the oven and their little round table. There were stacks of steaming scones covering the entire counter and table, some were even starting to stack up.

"What the bloody hell happened here?" Baz said walking over to Simon, concerned.

Simon's tail was lashing around wildly which usually meant he was upset.

"I was thinking," Simon said tensely, "and I felt like eating scones but we didn't have any so I made some but then I was thinking about the old lady down the hall who makes us cookies and so I made her some scones and then I was thinking about the ladies in the coffee shop so I made them some too an-"

Baz cut Simon off, "Simon, what's going on? What's really going on in your head?"

"Nothing," Simon threw his arms up exasperated, he went to walk around Baz and but he stopped him with his arm. Simon's wing knocked a few scones to the floor.

"Love, people don't just make..." Baz looked around like he was counting, he gave up, "this many scones because they aren't thinking anything."

Simon huffed his wings flopped a little.

"Simon, is it about the mage, about what happened at Watford last year?"

Simon looked away. Baz pulled him by the arm to the couch.

"Simon?"

"I don't know... maybe. It doesn't matter," Simon said, his voice cracking a little.

Simon was sitting with his wings tucked around him and his knees pulled into his chest, Baz pulled him closer so Simon's head was on his shoulder.

"It does matter, Simon. You matter," Baz said.

Simon cried into Baz's shoulder.

After Simon had stopped crying Baz turned to face him.

"What the fuck are we going to do with all those scones?" Baz asked with mock seriousness.

Simon burst out laughing.
