People lined the streets staring as Willow, Miles, and Darius walked back to their small home.  Some people would shout curses, or throw things, but most just stood there staring probably wanting to throw Willow out the gate and get everything over with.

It was still late morning when they reached their home, Darius burst through the door and they all quickly shuffled inside. Darius closed and locked the door, and then ran into his room digging through all of his draws.  He started pulling out all of his Protector clothes, and he pulled out a small bag.

“Okay, theses may be too big for you but I want you to take some just in case you need them.” He said motioning to the two black t-shirts he laid on his bed, “I know for sure my pants won’t fit you so you’ll have to wear anything you have.  Now then food,” he hurried into the kitchen taking out bread, crackers, and dried meat. “We don’t have a lot of dried food for you to take, but you can take all of this, I’m sure you’ll find a town or something, there are towns right?” he asked Willow frantically.

“Darius calm down I still have 6 more days.”

“But I want you to be in a town far before they come here to look for you.  Oh dear spirits I wish I could go with you, to know that you’re safe.”  He said pulling her into a hug.

“I’ll go” Miles said “I’ve been stuck in this city all my life, but no one’s ever accepted me.  My parents wouldn’t notice me even if I went on a rampage through the city, they sure as the sun wouldn’t notice if I left.”  Willow turned to Miles; she cradled his face in her hands and looked into his eyes.

“Miles, I would love more than anything for you to come with me, but you’ve never been out there, you don’t know what it’s like.”  His smile vanished, she dropped her hands and hugged herself to him, “If anything happened to you out there, because of me, I would lose it.  You’re the only friend I’ve ever had, and I’m not going to let you put yourself in that kind of danger.”

“She’s right son, I myself don’t remember what it’s like out there, but I’ve been a protector ever since I was old enough to be.  Those things, Bats and Wolves alike are nothing like what they tell you in school, they’re worse.  Nothing anyone can say about them will prepare you for what they’re really like, the fear that ignites in your body as they get closer.  The wicked smiles that are plastered on their face as they sense your fear, hear your heartbeat pound in their head.” His voice was getting louder and louder as he went on.

“Darius you’re not making this any easier!” Willow shouted

“I’m sorry I just hate them so m… I’m sorry”

“I know how you feel” she said placing her hand on his shoulder

“Promise me you will stay as far away from them as you can, don’t go out at night if you have the option, and keep your face hidden while in public; those wolves hide everywhere, filthy dogs.”  He scoffed

“I promise, I’ll stay safe,” she said shoving the clothing and food into the small bag “There’re some more things I’ll need, and I’m going to need your help to get them, both of you.”

Miles looked up from the floor where he had been staring for the last couple of minutes “anything I can do to help,”

“What is it you need?” Darius questioned

“From you Darius, I’m going to need you to lift two silver daggers, and a bow, the shafts of the arrows must be made of wood.  Miles, you know I would never get away with lifting anything, and I have no money to spare.  Those people watch me like a hawk when I go into town, expecting me to infect their children or suck their wives dry.  So I need you to lift me the darkest colored cloak you can find, it must have a hood large enough to cover my hair and face maybe even conceal weapons.”
