better days.

*four and a half years later*

I groaned as my alarm clock blasted Sum 41 from my nightstand. I threw my pillow at it and only succeeded in knocking it off the stand.
"Crap," I muttered, groaning as I rolled out of bed.
I grabbed my alarm clock and finally turned it off. I looked at the time and sighed contentedly.
"Okay, it's only 6:47," I said, sighing as I stumbled back towards my bed.
Only then did I realize that it was a day that I had classes at 7:15 instead of 8:15.
It was at that moment that I knew I had messed up.
"CRAP!" I shrieked, leaping gracefully (aka becoming entangled in five pairs of jeans on the floor and almost cracking my head open on the corner of my desk while lunging awkwardly towards my closet) across the room. I threw an old band shirt on and shimmied (more awkwardness) into a pair of jeans before grabbing my comb and shoving it in my backpack. I grabbed my keys from the table and rushed out the door.
I ran through the building and dodged more panicked 7:15am class students as I rushed to the elevator. I jammed my way into the overcrowded elevator (as always)and was practically shoved out onto the first floor.
"Good morning to you, too," I called to the girl who pushed me out. She turned around and glared. I chuckled and started running down the hall. I turned a corner and saw a guy on the phone by the exit with his back to me. I quietly walked up to him and wrapped my arms around him.
"Whoa-- well, good morning to you too, sunshine," Malcolm said, turning around and smiling down at me.
"Mmm," I said as he kissed me softly. We broke apart reluctantly and I grabbed the phone out of his hand.
"Hey, bestest friend, I love you oh so much, but I gotta get your brother to class," I said, grinning.
Reese's laugh rang through the phone, making me smile even bigger.
"Love you too, Jaded. Go get smart," He said, still chuckling.
"See ya, Reese," I said as "BYE REESE!" was heard from the janitor's closet as Malcolm grabbed his books. I hung the phone back on its stand as Malcolm shut the door to the closet.
"Ready, Mrs. Wilkerson?" He said, taking my hand in his.
"Always," I said, laughing as we took off running down towards the exit doors.

After that fateful day in the high school gym, a lot had happened. Malcolm and I graduated high school, both of us with high honors. Malcolm was the class valedictorian, and gave the best graduation speech I've ever heard. Also, we both got accepted to Harvard and lived together in the family dorms. Reese was a janitor at our old elementary school, and he was living with Craig. Not exactly sure how that happened, but he was happy, so I wasn't complaining. Dewey was still a music prodigy, and was now the oldest kid in the Wilkerson household. He, of course, took the role as oldest brother well, teaching Jamie how to become another generation of Wilkerson Troublemaker at an early age. Julianna was starting her first grade year at the elementary school with her Uncle Reese by her side every second they could find each other. Oh, and Malcolm and I got engaged on our first day of our senior year and our wedding was on our graduation day. We all had seen our worst days, but we always came out stronger in the end. Now we were seeing our better days, with someone we loved always by our side.
