One chance. One chance. I kept repeating it in my head as I walked to the burnt Hale house. One chance that's all, if he blew it, it's over.

"Derek!" I pushed open the half burnt door and made careful steps across the creaky floorboards. It was hard to believe that this house was once grand, and was full of a happy family. Or pack.

"Derek Hale! I know your here!" I cross my arms "You wanted to talk, so let's talk"

The warm breath of someone alerted me to his presence. I jumped around making sure there was enough space between us.

He was shirtless.

"Can you put a shirt on?" he raises his eyebrow, shooting me an amused look as he chucked on what I'm sure is a dirty old shirt.

"Why are you staying here? Can you not stay in a hotel or something?"

"This is my home, where else would I go?"

"I don't know" I wave my hands about "Anywhere but here, look that's not what I want to talk about"

"Come on" he leads me through what used to be the kitchen, and lets me take a seat on an old wooden chair, one that was lucky to survive the fire.

"I'm willing to let you spend time with Violet"

His face lights up and I can't help but feel guilty "But..." and just like that it stops "you need to find a new place, I'm not letting my daughter stay in this house with you. Not when it's so dangerous"

He reluctantly nods "I'll sort it"

"I know you will. I'm trusting you Derek. Don't make me regret it"

"So you know we talked about Mummy's friend Derek the other day?"

"Yep" I kneeled in front of my daughter, she clutched her teddy to her chest.

"Well he is coming over today, to spend some time with us. Is that okay?"

"Can we go to the park?"

"Sure, baby"

"Then its fine" she smiled wide and ran off to pack her back pack full of toys.

"Higher!" Violet giggled as the swing swung her higher into the air "Higher Derek!"

I watched from the pack bench as my daughter and her father bonded. I couldn't help but feel bitter, I was being stupid I know but seeing them get on so well after such a short time filled me with jealousy.

"Mummy, look how high I'm going!"

"Wow baby!"

The smiles on their faces were identical as they fooled around in the park for the day.
