Dr. Reyes hadn't meant for any of this to happen. He hadn't meant for his children to be stripped away from their mother. He hadn't meant for them to be experimented on. He hadn't meant for them to become what they are. And as he stared at them now, his beautiful, brilliant little girl Diana and his shy, lovable son Marva, he couldn't help but hate himself for the pain he had caused them.

Through the one-way glass, Dr. Reyes could see his children playing with their toys, as kids do. But what was different about how they were playing, aside from the fact that they were being monitored through one-way glass, was that the twins had electrodes pressed to different parts of their head, their chest and the fact that Diana was currently burning hand imprints into her toy blocks. Diana, frustrated threw the blocks down and crossed her arms over her chest. Dr. Reyes watched Marva walk towards her, pick up the blocks and stack them for her.

"It's not fair!" Diana said in her loud, seven year old voice. "Why do I have to be the one that burns everything she touches?" Diana said. Marva shrugged.

"You just gotta learn how to control it like dad says."

"Yeah well dad should stop watching us through the glass and just come inside." Diana said, sticking her tongue out at the one-way glass. Dr. Reyes sighed. Diana didn't know for certain that their father was out there but she assumed that he was.

"If he wasn't busy I'm sure he would." Marva said, always the one to make excuses for him. Diana was the headstrong one and the younger of the two siblings by five minutes. Catalina used to say that Diana shoved Marva out first just to have a little extra wiggle room. Dr. Reyes rubbed at his temple as he took a few more notes on his children. Marva was trying to distract Diana now by shadow bending the bricks around the room. He would engulf one of the blocks with the dark smoke like substance he was able to create at will and the blocks would end up wherever he wanted them too, wherever there were shadows. Underneath the table, under the chair, the shadowed corner of the room. Sometimes Marva could even engulf something in the smoke to pull out later whenever he wanted too. They had found that out when they watched a tape of Marva pulling food from almost thin air when he and Diana were watching a movie together one night. They were not allowed to eat past a certain time but Marva had snuck food out of the cafeteria.

"When will you stop defending him. He's the one doing this to us."

"He's just trying to protect us." Marva said quietly.

"He's our father! He should have protected us by not letting A.R.G.U.S do this to us!" Diana snapped at him, causing all the lights to fritz out in the room. Marva just continued to play with their toys and Diana huffed.

"One day things won't have to be like this anymore." Marva said sounding much older than he actually was. Diana huffed.

"And if things don't get better?" Diana said. Marva didn't reply.
