To someone who doesn't know him, Hugo's exterior is refined; he is quiet, bookish, and shuttered. He rarely is the one to initiate a conversation, and to an onlooker he appears rather cool and collected. Around those he knows, however? A different story. Hugo had always been a rather nervous boy, and ever since the familial incident he's never learned how to lower his guard. Hugo was never very extroverted to begin with, and the fire didn't exactly help him to become more open. He even tends to steer clear of his own cousin, sticking to having conversations solely with his sister, and watching over his little brother. It's not easy being in the middle, but Hugo tries to make do. Keeping to himself is his specialty, especially if armed with a book that interests him... that is, to say, any book. When he was younger, Hugo had never been much of a talker; that hasn't changed, even after his parents' unfortunate passing. He tries to act sensibly and logically, but, unfortunately for him, his emotions are loud. There's been many a time when Hugo's anxious nature has overshadowed his sense of reason. He's still working on that.
