1} Sensible shoes.

It's likely you're going to do a lot of running so try and get hold of some sensible running shoes or hard wearing boots. You'll need them to last you for a long time.

2} Thick clothing.

Although it may be hot and harder to deal with, at least try not to have any skin on show. You're more likely to get bitten if your arms aren't covered. Leather jackets are ideal, however, you don't want to over heat. If it's too hot then try and wear something cooler which is still long sleeved.

3} Preparing.

Let's say the zombies are only just starting to break out. You still have a few days to get your supplies and go. Forget packing your favourite DVD's and books. These are the supplies you should prioritize:

- Water

- Canned food

- Medication

- Weapons

- A backpack (to store your supplies in)

If you have time you may also think about bringing:

- A torch

- Matches

- A can opener

- Tape

- A map

- Rope

- A change of clothes

- Batteries

4} Practice shooting.

You need to make sure you can aim as accurately as possible. You don't want to waste ammunition by having to shoot a zombie 2 or 3 times because you keep missing it.

5} No place is safe, only safer.

You are never truly safe, so don't go getting comfortable. You should stay alert at all times.

6} Know your zombies.

You need to find out as much about the zombies as possible, whether this is through the news, other survivors or experiments. It will be a lot easier to kill them once you know what their weaknesses are.

7} Avoid the hospitals.

Your first thought is probably to run to hospital, they have lots of medicine, right? This is a BAD move. Survivors who have recently been bitten are likely to go to the hospital for help. The hospital is full of people minutes away from turning into a zombie. In fact, avoid any public place (e.g school & supermarkets) these will be the first to be overrun.

8} People may be just as bad as the zombies.

There will be people who will do ANYTHING to survive. They don't care who you are, they could rob you, murder you or even eat you. Be careful who you trust.

9} Don't make enemies.

Zombies don't seek revenge, humans do.

10} Don't let your group get too big or too small.

One thing is for sure, you don't want to face this alone. Try and find some other survivors to team up with. Make sure your group doesn't get too big though. If there are too many people you're going to need more supplies and it's going to be harder to sneak around.

11} Don't waste ammunition.

I know it's easier to shoot a zombie than approach it and stab it. However, if you can save your bullets and kill the zombie another way, do. Nearly anything can be used as a weapon if you try hard enough.

12} Boil your water.

If you're getting your water from anything other than an unopened bottle from a house or supermarket, BOIL IT. There are so many diseases about, you don't want to risk catching one.

13} Buildings.

Before exploring a building, try and spot every possible exit. You need to know your escape routes if you need to suddenly leave.

14} Pretending to be one of them.

Although you may have seen it on The Walking Dead, do not gut a zombie and then cover yourself in their guts. It's going to be highly infected and full of diseases.

15} Take no chances.

If someone in your group is bitten, then I'm afraid it's the end for them. Make sure they have been properly bitten first, but kill them quickly. You can't risk them infecting the rest of your group.

16} Seek shelter before nightfall.

17} Do not become dependent on the government.

Do not stay close to the cities in the hope that the government and armies will come and save you. You're on your own now. The cities are going to be full of zombies, you don't stand a chance.

18} A zombie you don't kill is a zombie you'll have to fight later.

However, it's not worth fighting them if there are too many.
