SANCTUARY FOR ALL

Karen laughed as she balanced herself on the track rail. Michonne, Carl, and herself bet each other that who ever slipped off balance loses. And who ever wins gets first pick.

And Karen was not about to lose this battle.

"What are you guys doing?" Rick asked with a smirk on his face. Karen giggled as she slowly looked up at him.

"We all made a bet and now we're just seeing how long we last." Karen explained which made Rick roll his eyes. Michonne tried to distract Carl but ended up losing balance.

Carl and Karen laughed before they continued. Carl slowly turned to see Karen still in the game. He couldn't believe it at all! It's like she's good at almost everything!

Karen almost lost balance but got on track. She then stopped and told everyone to stay quiet. Michonne and Rick got out their weapons, Carl stepped off the track with his gun drawn.

"You hear that?"

"Hear what?" Carl asked before Karen smirked to herself. She was really smart at this!

"It sounds like I won the bet!" Carl's eyes went wide before he looked down to see he was off the track. Michonne and Rick began to laugh hysterically at the two.

"How did I not notice that?" Carl whined as Karen kissed his cheek.

"Maybe because I've been doing for the past 5 years." Karen said before she walked off.

"Wow, she totally got you, buddy." Rick stated as he smirked at his son. Carl tilted his hat to cover his red face. He was so going to get her back for this. He made sure of that.

"So, should we camp here for tonight?" Karen asked as she saw a small area with firewood and logs.

"Yeah. It's almost dark anyway." Rick stated before we all settled down.

"So, I never got to ask you. But how did your family, you know...?"

"My mom, she passed away of cancer 2 years before it all started. My sister she got bit after we got into an accident. My dad..." Karen didn't want to go on. She didn't want to go how Carl shouldn't hate her for having the Governor as a mentally insane father. But he was going to find out eventually. Right now, at this moment, she didn't want to ruin it.

It was all too perfect.

"Karen?"

She looked at him before she scooted closer to Carl and laid her head on his chest.

"Carl, I don't want you to hate me. I love you too much to have you angry at me." Carl sat up and stared at her dead in the eyes.

"I could never be angry at you. And you know that, Karen. Never forget it. Okay?" Karen smiled at him before she placed a hand on the back of his neck and pulled him into a passionate kiss.

Karen still felt guilty for not telling Carl about him. It's like she was basically lying to him. She needed to tell him sooner or later before he finds out from someone else.

The next morning, the 4 picked their things and fed Judith before got a move on. As they walked down the track, a sign caught Karen's attention.

"Guys! Check it out!" Carl came to her side and smiled as he read the sign.

TERMINUS
SANCTUARY FOR ALL. THOSE WHO STRIVES SURVIVE.

"Sanctuary? Like food, water, clothes?" Karen asked as she looked down at herself. She wore an old leather jacket, tank top, jeans, and her combat boots. She needed a change.

"Yep. Dad, we need to go there. If they have food, shelter, water, anything..."

"Alright. We start heading there. Let's see if this place is what it says." Rick said before they walked away. Heading down the tracks that were leading to, what they hope, a new haven. A better life. A fresh start.
