Alright, ya'll, I kept this short, but shitty. (Hahaha see what I did, not short but sweet, short but shitty). It's literally only 2,800 words but I think it's kinda cute. I just haven't thought of where I want this story to go yet. No promises that I'll have a new chapter out any time soon. I hope you guys enjoy this sorry excuse for a chapter oof.
Emily was beyond excited. She had been ready for the date for an hour already, and she hadn't texted Alex all day. She was nervous, because she didn't want to dress up so nice that it was awkward, but she also didn't want to look sloppy, so she had settled for a nice blue sweater with a moon and some stars on the front and a white skirt. Simple but still cute.
The doorbell rang, and she threw on her black flats, grabbing her purse and running to the front of her house. She shouted a goodbye to her parents, even though she knew they weren't listening, and opened to door to find a sheet-white Alex dressed in a plaid button-up and some jeans. He was holding a rose out at literal arms length and he looked nervous as nervous could be.
Emily grinned, taking the rose carefully and grabbing his hand. She led him into the house and filled a vase, placing the flower into it and putting it on her bedside table. Alex looked around her and Nori's room in wonder while she worked. Nori was out of the house as well, thank the lord, so there was nobody there to ask them where they were going as they walked back out the door and got into Ron's car.
"I'm technically too young to drive, so this is the best I can do without making you walk." The apology in Alex's voice caused Emily's jaw to drop, and she glanced over at him with wide eyes.
"Alex Riley, you had better not be apologizing for this. You'll make poor Ron feel bad. I love Ron. Don't make that mistake." A small laugh escaped her as she watched him throw his hands up in defense, and minutes later they were pulling in to the parking lot. Emily hopped out and smoothed her skirt. It just about reached her knees, which was the length she was comfortable with for the most part. Alex hurried around and took her hand gently, as if he was afraid she would break if he held on too hard.
Just for good measure, Emily smirked and squeezed his hand extra hard, earning a surprised yelp and then an embarrassed laugh. She giggled, fixing her grip so she could tangle their fingers together as they walked. He held the door for her like a gentleman, and she rolled her eyes, but walked through anyway.
"What are you gonna get, Han Solo?" She asked, looking over the menu even though she already knew her order. She was a regular at the shop, so the workers knew her well enough to get it without being asked.
"Uh... Probably just vanilla." Alex shrugged, barely even looking at the menu. Emily raised an eyebrow.
"Excuse me? Vanilla? Are you kidding me? That's the saddest thing I've ever heard. No way are you getting vanilla. Here, eat and learn your lesson." She pulled him up to the counter, and she couldn't contain her laughter when Alex's eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw the girl behind the register.
"Shut up, Emily, give the kid a break. Let me guess, the usual?" Maya shook her head, but she was smiling too as Emily clutched her stomach, wiping a pretend tear from her eye. Alex just continued staring, before glancing at Emily with a helpless face that just made her laugh a little more.
"Yeah, two small rocky roads with whipped cream, sprinkles and cherries. I'll take mine in a cup." She cast a questioning glance at Alex, who nodded silently, still dumbfounded. "His too. Thanks, Maya. Hey, Rowan!" Emily waved at the brunette who was already scooping their ice cream, and the girl smiled back, walking by Maya and giving her a quick peck on the cheek.
"Go take your seat, Princess. We'll bring you and your husband the ice cream when it's ready." Maya winked, which just caused Emily to blush as she led Alex to a table and sat across from him. Grinning slyly up at the boy, she tilted her head.
