{Chapter 2:Keeping up with Expectations} [Rewritten]

I rolled out of bed this morning rubbing my very sleepy eyes. Mr.Jones gave me a report to finish last night I was up to 3 am finishing it. I can't even keep my eyes open. I wash and brushed my teeth. I had plenty of time and decided to do  makeup today.  I slipped into a turquoise button up dress and black heels.
I decided to brush my wash n go into a bun and checked myself out in the mirror.

I grinned," well got damn ma! You lookin' cute." I said to myself( what sometimes you needed your own hype man.) I head downstairs grabbing my purse and keys and walked out to my car. I got in my car and drove to Starbucks ordering a coffee and breakfast sandwich, since I had some extra time. Once I paid and got my food I made my way on to the high way and cursed seeing all the traffic ahead. "Fuck. Must've been an accident, now I'm gonna be late." I grumbled and smacked the steering wheel sitting back in my seat.  I pulled up to work right at 8
30 minutes late and groan. I walked inside mumbling to myself about the stupid traffic hearing the secretary Ms.Davidson speak,
"Ohh sweetie Mr.Jones will be upset you were late," She said. I nodded,"I'm aware," I say sighing and ran to his office. He wasn't in there thank goodness. I put my purse down and he walked in with a frown.

"Why were you late? " he questioned. "I was doing your report last night till 3 am and hardly got sleep Mr.Jones," I reply trying to not catch an attitude. It was only my first week here, and he was packing on work.
"Well Mrs.James that is not an excuse and sass talk me again you will regret you ever did" he smirked and snatched the report out my hands looking through it and nodding in approval. "Nice work Mrs.James but next time be on time or else," he said walking to his desk. I glared at him "or else what Mr.Jones?" he looked at me and shook his head," keep trying me if you want to." He replied, the intense look in his eyes gave me enough warning to shut my trap.

"Here's your coffee Sir, " I say handing Mr.Jones his hot drank he grabbed it and sipped it. "You're welcome, " I say irritated he smirks but doesn't say anything "fine then, " I say grabbing his cup and dumping it on his head.  He sat there his face hot and red( not just because of the coffee.) He didn't say a thing as crickets could be heard with the silence. Mr.Jones was fuming and finally turned his cold stare to me, I swear a vein was about to pop in his neck. "Miss James you have exactly 10 seconds to go find me a towel." He said calmly but his eyes told a different story. Fear struck my soul and I hightailed to the break room, luckily finding a towel that was used for the mini kitchen in there. "This break room is nice..." I say looking around before hearing Mr. Jones voice,"..EIGHT NINE!" He yelled counting and I rushed back over to him almost tripping.
I handed him the towel and he wiped the coffee off his hair and clothes, that definitely was gonna leave a stain. "I don't know who you think I am or where we are. But get your attitude in check before I fire you and make sure you never get a job in this state EVER! Do you understand? Now go work on that assignment I gave you." He said his voice filled with rage. I backed away going back to my office my heart was pounding in my chest as I tried to calm myself down. I again let my anger get the best of me. Being rude was no excuse to almost give my boss third degree burns. I sigh and finished the assignment.

Awhile later I finished and knocked lightly on his door," come in." He said sounding calmer now, he was changed into a different suit.
"And just so you know Miss Lamari, that suit you ruined was 1,200 dollars. So until you've paid your debt to me, I'll be deducting money from your paycheck." He said causing me to frown but I bit my tongue this time. I simply hand him the work I was working on. He skimmed through it before nodding.
"Um I just wanted to apologize for my actions... it was very unprofessional.." I say softly and he stares at me for a bit to long causing me to squirm uncomfortably.
"Yeah yeah Next time I'll give my lawyer a call and have you thrown in jail." He says casually causing me to gulp. His face was still a bit red but no bruising or swelling. Fuck I'm luckily nothing happened to his gorgeous face, I mean.... face. I shook my head and moved away to finish the rest of my work day.

<Later on after work >

I ordered pizza hunt and 10 mins later someone knocks on the door. I open it thinking its the pizza man but it's my boyfriend Matty. He walks inside kissing my lips and hugging me. "What are you doing here bae," I say looking at the flowers and teddy bear that says I love you. He smiles kissing my hand "I wanted to congratulate my beautiful girlfriend for her new  awesome job" he says I hug him mumbling a thank you. He sits me on the couch and we watch tv cuddling till the doorbell rings. I open the door and see the deliver man taking the pizza and hand him the right amount, plus enough for a good tip .
"Thank you so much have a nice day," I say and closed the door. I sat the pizza on my kitchen table and Matty walks into the kitchen and we ate  then I washed and got into my pjs. Which consisted of a sports bra and booty shorts, (I get to hot at night to be wearing pajama pants and a shirt!)
We watched a few movies and soon he had to head home for work in the morning . He got up at 5:30 am everyday except on the weekends.
I kiss him goodnight as he walks out to his car.  I blew him a goodbye kiss  and him being corny as always caught it and placed it over his heart. I laughed and close the door after he pulled off. I walk into my room and watched Netflix on my laptop till I was K.O on the pillows.

Andddd Future Niyah here, I've rewritten the chapter making the coffee scene a bit more realistic. I will try and finish rewriting chapters over my spring break, which starts April 14th 😋😊.
