“Dan, help me please! SHIT, IT HURTS!” Molly cried out to me, clinging onto her stomach. I couldn’t do anything, I was frozen with shock and fear. I just stared at Molly’s blood soaked trousers and then the floor. What the fuck was going on?!
“DAN, HELP. FUCK IT HURTS!” She was screaming, tears pouring out of her eyes. I ran over to her, picking her up and running out of the penthouse to the car. I sat her down in the passenger seat and made my way to the drivers seat. She threw up violently, over the side of the car. She was crying, screaming, holding onto her stomach with one hand and the locket with the other. I felt so shit, not being able to do anything to take away the pain. All I could do was drive us to the hospital, 20 minutes away.
She screamed for the whole short journey there. She clutched my hand to the point where it went purple and I couldn’t feel anything. I pulled up outside the hospital and noticed my shirt was covered in blood. I leaped out the car and picked up Molly, running into the hospital.
“HELP. HELP US.” I shouted. A doctor came running over with a nurse and a bed which I placed Molly on, still screaming in pain. “S-s-she’s 12 weeks pregnant! Please help her!” I broke down in tears. I followed her into a room labelled “Trauma 1”, holding her hand as she turned as white as a ghost.
“Get someone from O.B down here now!” The doctor shouted, the twang of his American accent made him sound even more serious. I couldn’t stop staring at Molly, her body looked lifeless. “Don’t worry, er, Mr…?”
“Dan. Dan, my names Dan.” I told him.
“Don’t worry Dan,” he patted my shoulder, it still didn’t stop me from worrying. “We’ve sedated her to stop her from being in any pain. I’m Dr. John Carter, by the way.” He shook my hand and moved over to the side of the bed and put his stethoscope by Molly’s chest and listened intently before frowning slightly.
“W-w-what’s wrong? Is she going to be okay? What about the babies?!” I had so many questions but he wouldn’t give me a straight answer. He just sent me out of the Trauma room and a nurse from O.B entered, shouting words I couldn’t understand. I stood outside the door, looking through the glass window they had. I saw the O.B nurse put on a blue gown type thing and some gloves. She was moving around Molly frantically, shouting orders whilst taking quick glances at the ECG. I stepped closer to where my face was almost touching the glass so I could get a better look inside and I saw the lines on the ECG start to slow down and become further apart.
Molly was also hooked up to another monitor around her stomach; it let out faint beats from the babies hearts. I opened the door slightly and heard the babies heart beats. It was the first time I’ve heard them and I broke down in tears even more. We didn’t hear them at the scan a couple weeks ago, Molly would love this even though they were a bit faint.
Suddenly, the doctors rushed around her bedside and disconnected her from the monitors before rushing her out of the trauma room and headed towards the elevator. I followed them towards the elevator, trying to stay as close to Molly and her blood-soaked bed.
“We’re taking her to the operating room.” Dr. Carter told me. "It’s on the 3rd floor, meet us up there.” he rolled the bed into the elevator, being joined by the O.B nurse who I was yet to learn what her name was. The doors shut and I immediately turned to the right and ran up the stair case, missing two steps each time.
As soon as I got to the surgical floor, I saw Dr. Carter standing and talking to a man who was dressed in some type of surgical clothing. I also saw the O.B nurse rush over to Dr. Carter and the Surgeon, listening and talking with them before she and the Surgeon walked into the operating room. Dr. Carter walked out and headed towards me in the waiting room, shaking his head.
