"why isn't zach back yet?" daniel worriedly asked. jonah shrugged and corbyn didn't hear him, seeing as he had his air pods in.

"i'll go check on him," i got up from my seat and walked towards the men's bathroom.

when i entered, i heard soft sniffling coming from the farthest stall.

"zach?" i called out, my heart breaking at the sound of him crying.

"yeah?" zach coughed, trying to hide his sniffles.

"why are you crying?" i walked over to him when he opened the bathroom stall. his eyes were slightly red, while his cheeks were darker than usual.

"no reason," zach pushed past me and tried to walk out of the bathroom, but i grabbed his arm and pulled him back.

we were face to face, "tell me why you were crying."

"why do you care, jack?" zach looked away and crossed his arms.

"because, i just, i don't know," i stuttered over my words. why did i care? i've never felt this way for him, ever.

we've only been best friends, and that's what we will stay as, married or not married.

"then it's none of your business," zach rolled his eyes and turned the other way.

i sighed and pulled him back again, "i just care about you, i want to know what's up. you know you can talk to me."

"jack, it really doesn't matter," zach avoided eye contact with me.

"it does if you were crying in the bathroom stall," i ran my hands through my hair impatiently.

"i swear, jack, it's no big deal," zach rubbed the back of his neck. i could tell he was lying, he always rubs the back of his neck when he lies.

that's something i've always noticed about him.

"come on, zach, if it's about the marriage thing then it's really no prob-"

"it's 'no problem'?" zach frustratedly exclaimed, "if it's 'no problem', then why were you so upset when we told the boys about this marriage thing. i get it, this is all confusing and frustrating, but that doesn't mean you can put all the blame on me!"

"zach-"

"no, this isn't only my fault, okay? we were both drunk and we weren't thinking," zach shook his head, obviously feeling hurt.

"i didn't say it was your fault!"

"then why'd you say that, 'i don't want to be married! especially to him'," zach still avoided eye contact.

i stayed silent, i wasn't sure what to say or how to react.

"that's what i thought," zach shook his head once more and left the bathroom.

i didn't stop him this time.
