A/n: Hello, thank you for taking the time to read my story! I hope the chapters aren't too short or long. Take a guess of what demon will be Taidan's first!

Taidan was crossed between pissed and very pissed. Pissed at her taking his sweet breakfast away and pissed at her for out buying him.

"I was about to buy that." He forced out, trying to look calm.

"I know, but doesn't it look fabulous on me?" She happily cheered, wrapping the shawl over her shoulders and navy military uniform. "Unless... you trade me for it." She taunted.

Taidan thought about walking away to another stall and pick something else, but he didn't like it when people walked over him. He wasn't a man of straw. His stubbornness won.

"What do you want to trade? I'll give you back the forty shillings for it." He said. Johnny was off to the side looking at the exchange between him and the immature Vocans scout.

"O no, not money," She shook head. "You could give me a hundred gold sovereigns, and I still wouldn't take it." She dramatically said.

"Then what do you want? If not money?" Taidan was having trouble trying not to sound agitated.

"Humm, what do I want?" She started tapping her finger against her lips, lips puckered and eyebrows knitted together. "O! How about being tested by the Inquisitor? I think that will be a fair trade." She said.

Taidan lifted an eyebrow, bewildered.

"That way you get the shawl and keep your money and I get my long awaited question answered. Plus, I get bragging rights when I tell Isaac that I was right about you being a adept." She proudly stated.

Taidan thought this through: he gets the shawl, his money, and gets rid of the annoying scout. The last one won him over.

"Deal." He reached out his hand and they shook on it. "Lead the way ma'am."

The scout introduced herself as Lieutenant Ensing, of the Celestial Corps: Hominum's battlemage air force. She worked under Captain Lovett, but was taking time off to teach at Vocans.

"I can't wait to go back to Vocans. It's going to be such an interesting year." She contently sighed.

Johnny was also coming to get tested, not wanting to waste this chance to talk to an actual battlemage. He bombarded her with questions.

"Where do demons come from?"

"What was your first demon?"

"What's flying like?"

"Have you ever thrown up while flying?"

"Did you ever see an Orc?"

"Have you ever killed an Orc?"

"Did you fight at The Battle of Shadow and Flame?"

Johnny was more eccentric than Taidan has ever seen him before. Lieutenant Ensing didn't seem to mind the questions and relished in his interests towards her. The shawl was still wrapped around her, not giving it up till the end.

She answered his questions in a single breath. "Classified, Mite, indescribable, yes, yes, yes, and no."

All the while she was leading them back towards the plaza, where the tent of the Inquisitor was.

Taidan had his own questions now.

"Why do you say I'm an adept?" He asked, genuinely curious.

"Because my gut tells me so." She showed a serious face and nodded, confirming her reason.

Taidan, now more confused didn't ask anymore questions.
