A/N: Hello everyone! I am so tired... Good thing there's ice cream and Netflix.
At daybreak Taidan heard the carriages rolling in and by mid-morning the peddlers were already setting up booths. The morning was buzzing with activity, through the window Taidan could see the crowds growing. People were out shopping and haggling, children played in the streets, and merchants called out to people. People usually came into the herb store to replenish their medicine or some tobacco for the trip ahead.
Whenever the peddlers come, Taidan mans the counter and Granny stays in the back and gathers the ingredients that people requests. She is a busy bee when is comes to people, but doesn't like dealing with snotty customers. So she lets Taidan deal with the people in the front because "social skills are important. Don't be a clod", was her answer.
"Tate, can you go out and get something for us to eat?" Granny asked, poking her head out from the backroom.
"Okay, is something from Castorfill Emporium good?" Tate suggested.
"Only if it is the pastries, you know how Granny likes her sweets." She said, grinning a full set of teeth.
"I'll be back in a little while." He went outside and headed towards Castorfill Emporium, in the town plaza.
On his way there he took in the festivities. The smell of candy apples and fried street food made him hungry. He heard happy laughter and boastful chatter. He was soon swept into the flow of the crowd going to the plaza. He found himself comfortable in crowds, drawing in the energy from the air; he also didn't mind being alone and the bliss of silence. He was in a peaceful trance, until he heard a galling voice.
"I cannot believe you just did that!" Screamed a female voice.
"Well you better believe it cause you're about to git another one!" Screamed a louder female voice.
Taidan zeroed in on the commotion that was happening just outside of Castorfill Emporium. The first thing he saw was long wavy cherry hair and a very bright pink dress. That could only mean Vivian was present, the only person who he tries to avoid completely. The other thing he noticed was a brown smudge on her dress. He guessed someone threw it at her and the only person who would and will is Sophie, her nemesis since childhood.
Sophie Castorfill, the daughter of the rich merchant, Jax Castorfill. Sophie and him were acquaintances; they knew of each other, but that's it. He didn't have the chance to make friends with her because of his job and she was always helping out her family business.
Sophie Castorfill was only one year younger than him and a little shorter. Her short blond hair was unmistakable because all the other girls kept their hair long. From what he knew about her is that Sophie was unlike other girls and liked it that way. Her clothes were not something other young ladies would wear. Brown overalls covering a white blouse shirt and brown boots laced up to her shins. She had a appetite for fighting, cursing, and never hesitated to do whatever she wanted. She was currently holding a chocolate muffin, that would explain the brown smug on Vivian.
"I'm telling your father what you did!" Vivian shouted. "Do you have any idea for much this cost me? You're no better than those filthy farm boys."
Ouch, he is a farm boy.
"Go ahead! Everyone knows how much you love the center of attention," She rolled her eyes. "You can't go one minute without complaining that something isn't pink. Even finding a boy to like you is hard enough." Sophie snapped.
There were gasps and ooos from the small crowd watching the cat fight. Everyone knew that Vivian was a lit— no, really crazy about boys. She once made a list of all the guys in the city ranking them from ten to one then posting it on the board placed in the plaza.
