A/n: Who's the third adept from Hartford?
Taidan slipped into a dark room in his mind he never knew existed. He found it liberating. He didn't have to feel the emotional turmoil building inside him. He didn't have to think about his life with Granny gone. Not even the scorch smell in the air bothered him.
He didn't know exactly where he was going, only that he had to follow Ian. Which was hard to do, since everyone was pushing against him, fighting the tide was like walking through a tar pit. People were shouting and shoving each other, he shove back or else be swept away.
Ian aimed for the sides of the street where there was less resistance. He took them to a side alley and escaped the main roads.
"The fire started abruptly. Don't know where it started or who caused it." Ian said, in quick bursts of air.
We were running behind the houses and stores that faced out to the main road. We twisted and turned, here and there. The alley was getting a little tighter.
"Wha— Is my Grandmother alive?" Taidan worded careful. He just needed to know that she's alive. Anything more would be to painful.
"She's alive. She, my Dad, and Alister are at your house." Zach said, somewhere behind him.
She's alive. Thank you God.
"Alister is with them?" Johnny questioned.
"He was there with us when we met Dad and Granny. He helped carry her back home." Zach explained.
"Zach and I went out looking for you guys after we split from them." Ian said. "It's a good thing your house wasn't near the fire."
Our pace started to slow when we cut the corner leading to the common road. There was still a burning smell and the heat still irritated his skin. The crowd was easier to press through, only stragglers remained. Taidan could see his house, the curtains were drawn on the upper level. The door still green.
They rushed inside and was greeted by Alister. He was pacing back and forth obviously in distress. When he saw us his face was elated.
"I'm so glad to see you guys." He started. "She's up stairs, Bruce is—"
Taidan didn't hear the rest of what he said. He had already passed him and bolted up the stairs. When he got to the top level he saw Bruce, just coming out of Granny's bedroom. Bruce strode over to him and wrapped him in a bear hug. Bruce is a hugger, a bone crushing hugger. Taidan let out a gasp.
"Bruce, how is she?" His voice muffled because of the muscular chest cutting off his air. Bruce let go after a good long minute.
"She's well now," His voice steady. "She wasn't near the fire, but the people around her started pushing and that caused her to fall. She landed on her hip."
Taidan grimaced. Falling hard on her hip could cause serious life threatening problems. She wouldn't be able to walk for a month maybe ever, if it was severe.
"Fortunately I was close by to pick her up and pushed through the frenzy panic. Just now I gave her something that'll make her sleep. You can go in if you want." He said sincerely.
Taidan nodded his thanks and quietly stepped inside her bedroom. Her room always had a sweet smell. Taidan guessed she hid honey in her room. Bad for her, but good for bugs. The room had a bed, a big oak drawer, and a chair by her bedside. The walls barren and the floor creaked when he walked.
Granny was tucked in, covered by her many quilted blankets, they were soft and vibrant with color. She had her eyes closed and a blissful expression. He guessed she was asleep already.
When he sat in the chair, she slightly turned her head in his direction. She let out a soft moan.
