12. New Start

Damon and Klaus were heading to the basement.
Damon- we have access to vervain down here.
Klaus- and that's why I can't compel you.
Damon- yup! But Stefan can be easily compelled.

They looked inside the cellar through the bars. Stefan was sitting in the cot, with his knees closer to his chest. Damon opened the door and Stefan's head snapped up at the sound of the metal door. He raised to his feet. His breathing was increased. His heart was racing.

Stefan- are you going to hurt me?
Damon- no, why would I...let's go upstairs...
Stefan- I...I can?
Damon- ritual is done and over with.
Stefan- what? Elena?
Klaus- she's safe.
Stefan- who are you?
Damon- that's Klaus.
Stefan- he's your friend. You both are going to torture me?
Damon walked further because whatever Stefan was babbling, wasn't making any sense to him. Stefan was standing there like a statue.

Klaus- Damon, stop.
Damon stopped and turned around to look at the newly turned hybrid.
Klaus- he will be coming upstairs. Let's go.
Damon- what? Fine. Door's open. Be upstairs, I'll get you tasty bunny blood.

Both the older vampires walked out. Damon hit Klaus's hand.
Damon- what was that?
Klaus- he was scared of you. His face was screaming that he was scared.
Damon- why he would be scared of... No!
He realized what happened with Stefan. Few months back, he tortured Stefan for kicks and this whole ordeal made him remember all the bad stuff. A PTSD case was here. Damn!

Klaus- you did something? Oh yeah, right, tortured him. I'm sure you will deal with this.
Damon- I know I will have to.
Both walked back into the hall and saw Enzo and Elijah talking.
Elijah- where is the boy?
Klaus- (mocked) where is he Damon?
Damon- he's coming.

Stefan walked in.
Damon- see he's here.
Damon walked over.
Damon- come on, I'll give you blood.
Stefan took a step back and nodded. Damon was now feeling guilty. He locked Stefan for his own good, now it was backfiring him. Why was life so hard on them?

Damon walked into the kitchen. Stefan settled down on the chair.
Damon- you'd like some snacks too.
Stefan- thanks, I'm fine. Elena okay?
Damon- she's okay.
Damon put a glass of blood in front of Stefan and Stefan gulped it down.
Stefan- I'm going to my room.

Elijah was busy because he saw books and it was a treasure for him. Enzo was with some chick that he met in a bar that night. Klaus was out compelling Gilbert to donate her blood for life time. He decided he can again roam into the woods being a wolf. That means, only Elijah and Salvatore brothers were home. Damon couldn't sleep because the guilt was eating him alive. It's so weird that Damon was feeling guilty but may be his brother had power to make him.

He heard noise from Stefan's room. His brother didn't leave his room for whole day and that as making Damon more upset. He went to Stefan's room to see Stefan asleep on bed and tossing and turning. His heart was racing and Damon was sure he would have heard if from a mile away. He went over and shook his shoulders. Stefan shot up.

Stefan- please, it hurts! Don't do it.
Damon patted his cheek. Stefan snapped out of the haze he was in.
Stefan- it was a dream. What are you doing here?
Damon- you're having nightmares.
Stefan- ah... Sorry. Sometimes it happens.
Damon- and it is my fault. I'm sorry.
Stefan didn't said anything. Damon settled next to him and pulled Stefan in his arm. He felt Stefan stiffen at his touch.

Damon- I'm sorry but things will be different now, I promise.
Stefan- I don't know.
Damon brushed the back of Stefan's head. Stefan reluctantly wrapped his arms around the older Salvatore.
Damon- I'm sorry for hurting you. I'm sorry for everything. I'll make it okay, all of it. Things will be fine now. Get some sleep, okay?
He pulled away.

Stefan- don't go.
Damon sighed.
Damon- move.
Stefan moved and Damon laid next to him.
Stefan- why do you think it will be okay?
Damon- because I'm determined to make it.
Stefan- good night brother.
Damon- good night baby bro.

Damon gulped down a blood bag as Klaus raised an eye brow at him.
Klaus- you really want to do it?
Enzo was still out. Elijah was sitting in a chair quietly listening to two psychopaths. Yes, he know that Damon and Klaus are psychotic vampires.

Damon- you were going to compel him anyway. Just tell him few things which I will tell you to.
Klaus- fine. You will give Stefan some time with me while I go hunt werewolves.
Damon- sure, why not? But don't make him do things that he doesn't like.
Klaus- we will see.
Elijah- if Damon is saying don't make him do bad things, then you won't.
Klaus- fine.

Stefan woke up late that day. Elena had called him for fifteen times. He will call her, later. He was hungry. He entered Hall and saw all the three men talking.
Stefan- what's going on?
Klaus- you don't know me, do you?
Stefan- Damon said yesterday when he was freeing me from that hell hole that you're Klaus.
Klaus- great.

He walked closer to Stefan and placed his both hands on his shoulder and looked into his green eyes.
Klaus- (compelling) remember everything.
Stefan was stuck for few seconds. Damon and Elijah were waiting for his response.

Stefan- Nik!
He wrapped his arms around the older man.
Stefan- you ditched me!
Klaus- sorry. But we didn't wanted Mikael to kill you, me and ...
Stefan pulled away.
Stefan- where is Rabekah? She was hot. I'm sure she still is.
Elijah- I don't want something like this Niklaus.

Klaus- okay then. Your word is golden brother and so is your request. (Compelling Stefan) you're not going to be involved romantically with Rabekah, ever. You're going to forget everything bad happened in your vampiric life. You're going to be a normal kid and you're going to forget that you once loved Elena Gilbert. You will stay away from doppelgangers. You're Stefan Salvatore and you live with Damon. You live a normal life with school, friends and family and football and everything. You're normal Stefan.

Stefan blinked.
Damon- what about his blood issues?
Elijah- those are his instincts Damon. You can't compel them away. Even if Niklaus do compel him, he's going to be in physical pain fighting with his need.

Stefan- Damon?
Damon- yeah.
Stefan- I'm hungry.
Klaus- hey, Stef.
Stefan- yeah, don't tell me you are leaving again. I mean you just arrived here. Stay for a while.
Klaus- I am going on werewolf hunt. Wanna join me? You are having summer breaks anyway.
Stefan looked at Damon.

Damon- what?
Stefan- can I go?
Damon- you're asking me?
Stefan- I shouldn't?
Elijah- no, you should. Damon, can he go with my brother?
Damon- yeah, but be back before senior year.
Klaus- he will be back.
Stefan- I'll get something to eat.
Elijah- don't you have to pack?
Stefan-Nik made me forget him, he owe me. He'll buy me whatever I need.
He walked away.

Damon- everything okay?
Klaus- I think so. I did this for you and him Damon.
Elijah- don't ruin it.
Klaus- yes, don't.
Damon- I won't.
