Michael Fraser was back in the dim room she associated as her office.
The room was recently searched and looked messy, unlike the cleanliness she saw yesterday. But Michael was not noticing that.
Her thoughts kept going back to the new information she had got. She had just come back from talking to Liana. Her mind was on an overdrive processing everything she had known in the past hour.
First, the mystery guy. No one knew who he was, she asked Liana but even she had no idea.
Then, according to Liana, Jane was planning something against her husband, she didn't know what.
She had one lead that could solve her doubts. A person who was waiting to be called in.
"Come in," she said. Two men walked in and settled down.
She pushed her thoughts away as she stared intently at the person sitting in front of her. Thomas Weld.
He was wearing a well fitted blue suit. His expensive watch gleamed under his wrist.
He had recently shaved and set his hair. He was laying back in his chair.
He looked relaxed, like he was in just another normal business meeting, but his eyes were alert as he returned her stare as intensely.
The only person looking uncomfortable was the person who introduced himself as Luz Browning, Thomas Weld's lawyer.
He attempted to talk after ten minutes of an intense staring contest. He cleared his throat." So, my client here could not come here earlier due to being engaged in business affairs."
"I apologize for that," Thomas said, not moving his gaze away.
"I see you have been busy." Michael gestured at the stack of papers in front of the lawyer.
Thomas smiled. Though the smile didn't reach his eyes. "Being a businessman, you get used to deal with this stuff. "
"You look good for someone who just lost their wife," she observed.
He shrugged. "People show grief in different ways."
"Where were you exactly the past days?"
Luz started to reply but Thomas cut him off. "You know, just another business trip," he said casually.
"With just another woman?"
He pursed his lips but didn't move his gaze.
His lawyer spoke for him,"Are you accusing my client of adultery? With no base of evidence?"
The lawyer must not be knowing the whole truth, as Thomas was turning red.
"Oh, no, no," she cackled. "That's for the wife to accuse. Unless, of course -"
"With respect officer, would you desist asking personal questions and come back to the case?" interjected Luz.
"Well, what can I ask? You have proof against everything I could accuse you of, don't you?" she said pointing at the papers in front of the lawyer.
"You can't afford to be careless in my profession," Thomas eyed daggers at her but his voice was level.
"That's one thing we have in common then," she noted. She took out a photograph from her pocket. "Do you know this person?" she asked showing him the photo.
He took the photo and looked at it, frowning. "No idea," he said.
She nodded but didn't care to hide her disappointment. "How was your relationship with Jane?"
